IMS Bearing failure that blows the engine suddently and sometimes without warning. About a 5% risk on cars 2000 - 2005 mostly but effects some 1990's and post 2006 models. There is a fix, but its the big thing on these. Also the window motors are prone to going. I have found that Porsche reliability is no better than BMW but this IMS bearing thing takes the biscuit.
Very good buying guide here - http://www.revolution-porsche.co.uk/...he-boxster-987
From that guide: Fortunately, IMS bearing failure is unusual on Boxster 987s, as the standard factory fitted bearing was upgraded and relocated to inside the crank case in 2006, and almost every 987 available on the second-hand market has the new stronger bearing....
Thanks Big H, that's really useful!
And going by that guide, this is a really good example! https://www.donedeal.ie/cars-for-sal...r-987/18987943
Actually I never liked Boxsters, and I shouldn't be looking at 2 seaters... But that's the nicest (987) Boxster I've ever seen!
