Guys does anyone know the optimum operating temperature range for the N42 engine? The car is running at 108 degrees but the temp gauge is still in the 12 o click position! Is 108 too hot? I would have thought the normal operating temp would be 95-100 degrees

I had the obd scanner plugged into the compact..think it was at about 98°...but I can check over the weekend for you if it helps
108 sounds a bit on the hot side to be honest.

When I did some research before overhauling the cooling system 20 months ago, the optimum temperature was 90-95ish degrees for a healthy car. Ken in M&G sorted me out with an OEM stat & EGR stat (diesel). When I access the hidden OBC menu for temps, I'm consistently hitting 94 degress now when up to temp.
I was occasionally hitting 106deg before. Once a fixed a tiny leak(elbow at back of head) the temp came down to mid nineties. All good since. I guess if there is a leak of sorts to system won't pressurise properly and thus runs hot?
How ye all get this hidden temp thing sounds interesting :)
