Need help diagnose a problem
E46 is being a headache once again (I hate this car :( )its parked about a mile from the house but at least its locked away securely
Before I even start I know this is a how long is piece of string question
It wouldn't start when my missus came out to it so I drove down thinking it was the battery so I jumped it but to no avail iv eleminated that its the battery as theres plenty of juice in it
It will start for roughly a second then just dies even if I try to rev it it does nothing and just continues to conk out
Any ideas ? Possibly sensor ?
Iv no diagnostics at the moment either for the first time in 3 yrs :@

Re: Need help diagnose a problem
I was going to say it feels like theres no juice in it but would it keep starting.
There was no weird noises from the fuel pump before hand or any indication it was about to fail
Is the fuel pump a common failure item on these I wonder
RE: Need help diagnose a problem
It sounds like an immobiliser issue, I've had it before where a car did exactly the same thing, it had an immobiliser retrofitted, I removed the immobiliser and problem solved.
Other thing that springs to mind is fuel pump, constricted exhaust, cam position sensor or a dead key.
Is it throwing any codes?
Re: Need help diagnose a problem
If it were immobiliser it wouldn't start at all I thought ?
I dont know brain is fried with it I dont know why I made a thread as its impossible to diagnose it could be a million things il just get it home and figure it out tomorrow
Thanks for the input gents much appreciated
Il report back tomorrow with more info hopefully
RE: Need help diagnose a problem
In Dundalk we.ve replaced over 6 lift pumps in the past week due to bad petrol.. lift rear seat check to hear if pump is running if not check power on plug if none remove glove box and check relay think its 3rd one in

RE: Need help diagnose a problem
Also sounds like fuel pump to me. Hopefully is as could be a lot worse!
Re: Need help diagnose a problem
Cheers never had to replace the pump before whats the options buy new or do people get them refurbished like alternators ?
Il check relay first then multimeter on the pump itself and go from there
