E46 320d 136bhp vs 150bhp
Hi all :) Was thinking of selling the E36 318is and going down the route of a 320d as I have a wee baba on the way and it just makes more sense lol, but is there much difference between the 136bhp and 150bhp models? I know the 150bhp comes in Msport trim and are 6 speed, but other than that is there much difference in power/reliability etc? Thanks

Massive difference 136 is as dead as a maggot
RE: E46 320d 136bhp vs 150bhp
Not all 150bhps are 6 speed only the late 03/04 ones.
Personally I wouldn't bother with a prefacelift car as I don't think they look as nice inside or out as the facelifts. I'd be going for a facelift Msport 6 speed. They can be bought cheap enough now so why bother with anything less!

Thanks for the replies folks, I think I'll go for a facelift 150bhp model soon enough. Was told to blank the EGR Valve and swirl flaps on them and they're a reliable enough car then. :)

I made the move from a e36is to a 03 320d..the best advice I can give is go into e46 ownership with your eyes and wallet wide open..there not half the car an e36 is..saying that im in a good place with her now..if I had the choice and less mileage each week id have a 36 again. .Unless you do big miles its not going to be worth the change

How did you find it to run compared to a 318is? Is it just that the e46 gives silly bother or what? Thanks for reply btw

I bought an e46 msport coupe 320d about a year and a half ago and to be honest it is a joy to own. She is the 6 speed manual and if it was me I didn't bother blanking the egr or swirls and have had no issues. The only issue I've had is the speed sensor in the front right and the brake caliper sticking. Oh and the flexi in the exhaust can be a troublesome piece. Cheap and easy fixes. I think to be honest if you do buy one just pick one that you are happy with, there are loads out there at the moment and might be better ask a few guys on the forum if they know the car before investing. Best of luck with it. If you need any help just ask.

Mines 2005 too in my opinion this is the best year to get. Facelift is far nicer.

I sold my 320d a month ago and I've a 330d at the minute and a good few of my friends have had 320ds over the last while too. Apart from general wear & tear replacement items, the only unexpected problem any of us ever had was a fuel pump. In general, parts are no more expensive than for any other car.
