Apprentice mechanic at 32!?
Due to a recent move I've been flogging the e36 with 700 miles a week to work and back these days and banging out the CV's. Now after months of searching my ideal job has come up. I really DON'T want to fuck this up and really DO want to get the job.
A local dealership has advertised for a first year apprentice. I'm aware of the wages and time involved etc but it's honestly what I would love to do. I have no "formal" experience but it's what I want to do.
I'd ideally like to drop and have a chat but I'm working for the next 10 days straight. Best tact to take?
How does someone land a job like this? And especially at my age!? :surprised:
Anyone?

I don't have any answers for you but it is something that I thought about recently. I'm 32 as well, and I'd love to work with cars as a full time job. It would be great to love your job.
Re: Apprentice mechanic at 32!?
Rumour has it all new Solas (new name for FAS) apprentices won't be paid off the job anymore. I'm clear as I'm technically a FAS apprentice, so they're paying me now.
Also the fees for exams have gone through the roof - €600 increase from €233 to €833 for phases 4 & 6 and I think they're charging for phase 2 which was always free.
Just a heads up as first year wage is €190ish

700 miles a week takes up a fair chunk too lad but thanks for the info. Would be wicked hard for people to complete the whole thing then as a result if they change it to that!
RE: Apprentice mechanic at 32!?
Indeed it would but I say go for it man, I hunted high and low for an apprenticeship but couldn't get one and if I got offered one today, id start tomorrow. Fuck the wages, apply for FIS and that would help. Its only 4 years too, and it sounds like a long time but it'll fly in.

What would be a good few phrases to bang into an application letter lads?
RE: Apprentice mechanic at 32!?
A lot of garages just take on apprentices for the cheap labour and let them off again at the end of their time so be aware of that before you sign up. Not saying there arnt other opportunities but if your counting on staying put there it's something to think about.

Like old porn stars, I am not actuwlly classed as old, I'm mature
I dont steal big expensive things, just the small stuff.
Although I may come across shy after my 10am Vodka and Redbull double, I really come into myself.

As long as you know where they keep the "long stand " "glass hammer "and the correct use of a" sky hook " youl get on the finest. On.a serious note go for it. Its never too late to make the right decision but there's always plenty of time for what ifs , if the garage is a decent one they may give a trial to see if it's for you before you commit to the full term all things going well that is.
