Checking valve clearance – S54
Hello,
I’m want to check valve clearance on a S54 engine and to do that I need appropriate feeler gauge set. Getting it seems to be not so easy.
I rang BMW service in Cork and they will not sell it.
The thickness to measure is between 0.18 - 0.23mm and 0.28 – 0.33mm, so basic feeler gauge set will not do.
Anyone would now where I could get a proper feeler gauge set or even lend it?
Or perhaps there would be someone in Cork area who would check the valves clearance for me :D

Fairly sure a guy on the forum "narusa" will lend you this set for €50 quid or so.

You can buy the full shim kit on ebay uk for about £85, they are not listed as bmw shims but are by all accounts the same. As for a feeler gauge, have you tried brownlows, Munster tools, joe desmonds.
Ardfallen in ballycurren have a mechanic working for them who rebuilt his own s54 also if you wanted to try them/him.

Thank you lads for all your responses. You gave me a number of options to try so will definitely find something. I'll try to buy the feeler gauges first. Will let you know how did it go.
