Another ABS sensor thread :D
Hey all,
My ABS system works fine no problems apart from below lol and still kicks in when light on.
Every couple of months the light comes on and off when driving.
Usually after driving pretty much the exact amount stays on and then will reset itself when car is restarted. Apparently this is symptoms of a dodgy sensor but when the codes are read the error code is on the pump?
I've no problem changing the pump but would like to know what's the best way of testing the sensors individually before this? Apparently it can be done measuring the resistance with a multimeter? What are the experiences with this? Accurate?
RE: Another ABS sensor thread :D
You're best just getting the fault codes read first and taking it from there?
Falcon has diagnostic gear doesnt he?

I have already read the codes John.
The error code is on the pump but the symptoms ie coming on after a few miles and resetting is one of a dodgy sensor ;) It's easier check all the sensors first than change the pump. It's easier in 6cyl cars but not in the 4cyl. The lines are at one with the pump and will have to be broken and redone to change the pump even if I just swapped pumps.

If it was a sensor there would be a code for the sensor even on the e36.
Did you use a proper bmw diagnostic tool like GT1?

But on a serious note, you can buy a hand held ocsillosope from Maplin or the likes and connect it up to the ABS sensors and go for a drive.
You will need the pin-out diagram for the ABS controller so you can connect into the back of the wiring will its all still connected so you can go for a drive.

Anyone else have anything else on this (thanks mr Broderick btw!)
RE: Another ABS sensor thread :D
Are you plugging it in when the abs light is actually on or a few days later
Also run a live data on each wheel to see if there all reading the same speed
