New car - 2 series Vs X1
I'm thinking about a new car for the wife - toss up between a 2-series or an X1 - I like the X1, she likes the 2-series (and in particular the 7-seater). Anyone have any experiences good or bad with either? I'll be looking at new or demo models so new version X1 only.

I drove a 218i recently in Germany with the 1.5 3 cylinder I think. Overall it wasn't a bad car but really didn't like the engine as it seemed far too unrefined for a BMW. Still, it did 210kph on the Autobahn but it was fairly terrifying at that! The 225xe looks appealing though if you need a family car.
Should have added - have a look at approved used cars in the UK, a lot of late 16, early 17 stock around at considerable savings.

Have had various 2 series as loan cars for extended periods, most recently a 216d SE, which was not good.

Have driven both and preferred the X1 - 2 series is too MPV like for me

I'd go for the X1, and I see on FB that new X1s are being offered with discounts so there's probably a deal to be had

thanks for the replies - if the X1 can fit three boosters across the back it's enough for the kids (2) + a couple of friends on an odd occasion (when you use the front seat as well). And the more I see on the roads the more I dislike the 2 series :)

If going X1 then the xDrive versions are much better to drive than the front wheel drive sDrive versions.
