As above, does anybody on here like to thrash a mountain bike around a nice mountain trail, or generally do a bit of road cycling either?
If so, post pics / spec of your bike, and the trails / roads you like to cycle ;)

used to cycle every weekend, then got a little bit of surgery on my leg..wasn't able for ages..then got fat...still have one of these though

Sorry to hear about the surgery. Nice looking machine :) I picked myself up a 2007 Kona Kula with lots of custom bits early 2012 when I first got into mountain biking, was living in Wicklow for a while and spent a LOT of time in Ballinastoe (great trail!!), I could be seen tearing down Bray head and around the Greystones area during that summer too... It wasn't till summer 2013 that I wanted to get something for the road to get to work and back here in Cork so picked up a new 2013 Cube Peloton Pro on the cycle to work scheme and couldn't believe how much faster a road bike is!!! It feels like floating rather than cycling in comparison.
Will post pics of both when I get home. Was itching to go mountain biking since last summer and with the weather finally getting better and days longer, will give ballyhoura a try as haven't been before. Would be cool to have a BMWHaus MTB day out :p
Love my road cycling these days, was mad into mountain biking but getting too old to be jumping off ledges and hammering down single tracks. Picked up a full carbon Cube Agree GTC last year and an out on it at least once a week, quite a lot more now, I've the Wicklow 100 on the 8th June and the Ring of Kerry Charity Cycle (180k) at the start of July, few pics below of bike and me

Picked this up a few weeks back. Just getting used to being properly clipped in :)

Used to do a lot if MTb here and in Oz. Has some nice Scott's and Kona's over the years.
Was about to buy this exact bike last year, would love to get into the cycling but I know I wouldn't use it to its full potential so didn't bother in the end, got a Trek MB for now but rarely use it :hehe!:

Love Cube bikes they have such a sexy design :D
@Dec: The idea of being clipped in is so strange coming from mountain biking, I had to go for regular pedals!
Love the aul cycling. Always had bmx mountain bikes when I was a kid. Got into road cycling last year and done a couple of adventure races done my cruciate end of last year so had an op on that end Feb after a few weeks off got back in the saddle. Had surgery on my back recently so in out of action again! I'm aiming to do gaelforce west this year crawling if needs be!
I used to do lots of off road stuff back in the day, had various Trek's back then,
including American made CroMo framed ones.
Bought this a couple years back to get me back into cycling for fitness, picked
it up for a song on adverts, well worth it. Will dust it off again for the summer.
It's a 2003 GT Avalanche 1.0...retro cool :D

@ Ginoc: fairplay! That's determination right there :)
@ Don: great way of keeping fit! I can't believe how long it took me to realise how ideal Ireland is for mountain biking, lots of hills/mountains and lots of nature = mtb heaven :D
I was big into the BMXing back in the day and did a good bit of mountain biking too.
Wicklow was great for the mountain biking, great trail and fire roads up there.
Would like to get into the road cycling but at the minute with my work her work and the little one its hard to find the time. Hopefully in the not too different future ill take the plunge again.
Just bought a Trek 4500 second hand from a mate! Want to play on some trail in Wick low one of the lads in work goes on. He cycles for Team Giant and the craic he has is mental!

I would do a bit of mountain biking down in Ballinastoe in Wicklow too. For anyone considering getting into it or just wanting to try it out, they rent bikes down there and the loop is not that technical of a course. A great morning / afternoon out, as long as you don't have any falls. I actually bought one of their treks second hand from them and it does rightly.
Have a giant defy 2 also as a road bike and did mizen to malin in 3 days the weekend before last so know the bike well!!!
Have a Road Bike that when I bought initially I did a "fair" bit (for someone who hadnt cycled since I got my 1st car); a few 25 - 30km cycles, to ease myself into it. A few up to 80km or so.
Got left to one side when the lil fella arrived. Got out for a few cycles since, but nothing hectic! And has been in the Father-in-Laws garage since moving house, but, now its almost fully decorated, I'll be going to get it and trying to get out for a few 30km spins in the evenings again!
Bought on the Bike 2 Work and added a few extra quid to the bike and a few accessories!

I love mountain biking same buzz as motor racing without the cost!
Anyone on here who likes mountain biking check out gravityenduro.ie
Each race has 5 timed stages , great events!
Have been up at Ballinastoe the last few weekends and loved it, forgotten how much.
Decided the old bike needed changing so that went and picked up a 2013 Kona Cinder Cone.
After seeing the Kona Kula a mate of mine bought from @[Peter-E36] I wanted something similar.
Great machine, very light with Scandium frame etc

My old GT Avalanche 1.0 and mates new to him Kona Kula at the weekend

Nice piece of kit, I haven't been up to ballinastoe yet I bought a 2nd hand mountain bike last winter with the intention of using it but stuck to the road cycling I may use it this winter. Adventure racing season is nearly over done the moxie a couple of weeks back and I'm heading to killarney this weekend to do the pro 60k will try keep the training momentum going over the winter on the trails.
Bought a road bike over the summer and I really enjoy it. Have the cleated shoes for it and they give a massive performance advantage and I really feel connected. To the bike. I never realised how fast road bikes were so I got a shock when I saw top speeds around 75kmh!!!:surprised:
It's a cinelli xperience with a Campagnolo Veloce 20 speed group set. Never had shimano but I'd be slow to change from campag after using it!

New chain yesterday and it's as smooth as silk so I can't wait to bring it for a long run!
http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b9...pse7885660.jpg
The Kona is pretty familiar with Ballinastoe :D delighted to see it's being used for what it was built for! Congrats on the Cinder, looks pretty tasty :)Quote:

And so it begins! :D
I know it's probably pointless when the bike is new, but when the time comes, I really can't rate Hope hubs enough, they're fecking great! Wheels just spin endlessly. Opinions vary on the noise they make but I like it :) it's a gentle "get out of my way" when on a trail :p
Yeah that's one thing about the Kula, rolls very nicely.
If I do go with a wheel rebuild I've already got Mavic rims there, so a good start.
Looking forward to get out on the trails with the new pedals, I have M520 pedals but these should
make it easier to locate the pedal when getting the foot back in
Have a Giant Anthem x love hitting the trails in ballyhourahttp://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14...fec16f953f.jpg
Wow that is compact!
What's that like for weight? That's what put me off the earlier Giant full suspension bikes, even my Talon was heavy compared to other similar priced hardtailsQuote:

I got out on the road bike earlier for the first time in a few weeks, 17K nearly killed me, have the turbo trainer out in the sitting room to get a few K's in during the week, roads are way too dark and dangerous to be out cycling in the evenings down my way

Was out on the road bike myself earlier for the first time in a while. I love how fast it is, but road cycling just isn't the same as mountain biking! Really miss it :(
Lots of road bikers out today, great weather for it in fairness.
Also just to mention this being my first outing on the new bike, there's a massive
diffe between it and the last bike, much much quicker, brakes actually work and
it absorbs the bumps much better.

Anyone else braving the winter weather?
Been toying with goin up for weeks, havent been up in months!! I think I'll try get out next weekend!!
Do if you can, it's always rewarding when you get out there, and the more you do, the more enjoyable it becomes. I've started even considering if a fullsuspension bike would make it even more enjoyable, but that's a 2016 plan, gonna try get a little better and improve the fitness on the hardtail first and in fairness it's an excellent bike (the Kona as pictured a few posts above)
There's a charity spin up in Ballinastoe on Sunday 25th January, should be a great laugh and I'd say there'll be a big turnout.

I know it doesn't look much now but it covered around 10k miles before I was old enough to drive, it kept me away from the drink an smokes .(drink for a while anyway). I got a bike to work there a few years ago and take it for a spin once a year :hehe!:always with.the intention of getting fit, but the older I get the shorter the spin :crying:.
