RE: E60 M5 Muffler delete ( standard exhaust mod )
I totally agree, a beautiful singer should sing but that sounds broken.
V8s naturally sound sweet and a decent exhaust is whats needed, maybe a removed cat and entre section.
E60 M5s are classy refined cars, they dont need the same sound as a Mk2 Escort Rally car. It does them no favours.
RE: E60 M5 Muffler delete ( standard exhaust mod )
Its hard to tell what it will sound like on a video but i think its sounds pretty good, how much will it cost to do and undo if you dont like it?? Might be worth trying first before splashing out on an exhaust...
I was very disappointed with the sound from my E92 M3 and i think its the same with the E60 M5 they need an exhaust to get the best out of the engine... Mine is ordered anyway..
RE: E60 M5 Muffler delete ( standard exhaust mod )
yea thats a fair point i guess...
i guess what iam getting at is from the sound clips i personally love the sound of it...and for the cost of a 2nd hand rear section (200e) its well worth a twist .... as an Eisemann is coming in at upward of 2500e just for the rear section .... is it 2300 better - i think not ..
and before anyone weighs in with the " oh well you bought an m5 what do you expect " lol ... i can well afford the car ... but i dont believe in just throwing money away in the pursuit of nice brand names etc... there are always options :)
Besides i paid for my personalised plate today lol

Totally agree with you Damo, the second hand exhaust im getting was just touching 5k new and there is no way i would pay that for an exhaust for my car... Seems to be a load of quality second hand parts for the E92 M3 anyway, i have had 2 mails off lads looking to get rid of parts, all parts added up would be touching €15k i would say...
When i was thinking of buying an M5 i was going to ask this lad to take my old exhaust and give him cash for his, might be worth a thought too..

FYI
A butchered exhaust will void your warranty. A quality aftermarket exhaust will not.

The Eisenmann Race exhaust is not TUV approved though and therefore not street legal. Would this not affect warranty?
RE: E60 M5 Muffler delete ( standard exhaust mod )
This is the problem with the e60 m5. Cold start is like a bag of hammers, sounds crap. Only sounds good at WOT which you never get the hear.
I think it sounds good with the delete myself, but I dont know about the noise on a day to day basis, you would have to hear it in the metal if you know what I mean.
Eisemann exhausts are great, the race is very loud indeed.

Eisenmann Race is not TUV approved due to noise emmision.
As long as the exhaust is of similar quality or in most cases exceed that of the OEM unit then EU law prevents the car manufacturer to weasel out of its warranty.

An Eisenmann or equivalnt will have been designed to suit the engine onto which it is mounted. Joe soap cutting and hacking with his angle grinder is not.
RE: E60 M5 Muffler delete ( standard exhaust mod )
Would be interesting to conduct a noise comparison test between 2 video clips and see if people could determine which was a muffler delete system and which was the expensive aftermarket system
