The state of the engine, carbon, crud and wear, is pretty frightening. Was it a city car?

It really is and begs the question how manufacturers were allowed to build so many diesels over the last 15-20 years.
My next car will not be a diesel, it is just filthy. I changed the oil in mine last month and within about 10 miles, after checking the oil level via dipstick, the oil was black again. 2 years ago, I removed the swirl flaps, cleaned the intake manifold and the EGR valve and although it wasn't as bad as above, the amount of carbon that came out and this was a car that spent 90% of its life on a motorway.
This car was just bought in UK ,on the way to Dublin start making noise . For the year , mileage is not really high , so more likely short distances . But main thing for this damage , EGR system , which returns exhaust gasses back to inlet system , threw breather system it gets all dirt as well . Too long service intervals , people think they can do plus more some miles, oil quality ,very small oil filter , and all this counts . Diesel oil will be dirty all the time , the only thing , good oil will not leave the dirt in engine , it will wash it out .thats why we do use 10W60 in lot cars these days . These N57 very soft engines . We had one more 2014 or 2015 with very low mileage , inside was much much more worse ..... first time I used 0W30 to get bit more wash in it , and the engine burned 1 liter of that oil very quick so next oil change we went different grade . Will see how it will go .
