Small update to the "IS", I fitted an Ultra Racing front strut brace to it after some slight under bonnet modification with a dremel :). Basically where the under bonnet light mounts on some E36 bonnets hinders the closing of the bonnet with this brace installed so out came the dremel and removable of the light mounting under the bonnet was done. The first picture shows the cutting that was done however it is not the finished article, the cuts are now much neater looking now ;).

Hi Gar,
The charger is running nicely thank you, I still need to sort the exhaust, and a few other bits before it goes over to Martin in Auto Remap for some fettling. Have not had it dynode yet but hope to get this all done at the one time. Downing claimed a power output of 207bhp on 92/93 ron fuel so shall be interesting to see what happens.
It goes well however the exhaust is now a big restriction, the way I see it is I am only half way through this project and there is lots more to be done before I can say it's complete. I estimate since buying to finish it will be a 5 year project.
I needed to change the brace as the other one which I loved covered the camber plates and Adjuster knobs on the BC's so this made changing the damping a bit annoying. So an Ultra Racing brace was fitted instead which I am happy with so all good.

Oil change time for Bubblegum. Meyle oil filter and Valvoline oil, only 2,500 miles from the big 160,000 mile mark.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psr03431yd.jpg
Only marginally more awkward with dasc fitted, need to undo the rrfpr and ideally undo one of the dasc bracket bolts.

Shall clean the K&N then swap out the fuel filter and she's good for another 6-7k before next oil change.

I shall be going hunting later this afternoon and hopefully find something untoward. Recently the boot lid loom had frayed so I need to recheck the repair on this and work the way through then. PITA.

So after some removal and refitting of dash clocks my random light show has stopped and all seems well again.
Nothing of late has been happening with the car other than daily driving. It's been weeks since it has even had a wash!!!! Tax is out in Feb so may take it off the road till the end of May and play catch up for the summer.
I did manage to get another key for it however, which is a nice addition and feels so much better than the older item. I need a new battery for the light in the old key and as you can see there is a fair difference between the two.
That's it for now :)

RE: Super4 E36 318isc demo car
Hi Cab, is it from the dealer - 30 eur for regular key (above) and 110 for remote key?
-
RE: Super4 E36 318isc demo car
Hi Peter, Not sure how much the remote central locking key is as mine is poverty spec without remote C/L :). The ordinary key with light which you see above is €62 + vat. Regular key without light is about €37 I think.
Hope this helps,

Not much done to the car of late, for the last few months I have not even managed to wash the car. So today it was getting done no matter what the weather. Finally the Wax-Tec Quik Seal has worn off after some 9+ months of protecting my cars paint work.

The joys of looking after everyone else's car and not you own.
Did I miss the mirror change?
When did that happen?
Ambers and avus really go together:cool:

Super4 E36 318isc demo car
Hi Austin,
Soon I hope to get lots done the car ready for summer but for now it's a case of nursing it on. I changed the mirrors a good while back around summer last year, they need a repaint but were good enough to throw on as they were in Avus already. The ambers shall be taking a back seat in the months to come as part of a face lift but shall keep them aside for when I feel like a change :D

Super4 E36 318isc demo car
Well I decided this evening would be the evening to change my very knackered engine mounts, the charger accelerated they're condition so much so that the left hand side mount had split in two.
Like always I have had these AKG Motorsport uprated mounts sitting in the corner for quite some time. These as you will see are the black version which = street use. So without any more delay here are some pics etc.
TOOLS NEEDED :
Trolley jack
Axle stands
1/2" ratchet
1/2" 6" extension
1/2" 16mm deep socket
Flat head screw driver
HOW TO GO ABOUT IT :
This was done on an M44 lump so is specific to the how too, however it shall roughly be the same throughout the E36 range.
1. Jack up the car
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psq3fthr3g.jpg
2. Place axle stands on both sides in suitable positions, lollipop bush holders work.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...pstdsxrozy.jpg
3. Release jack and lower car onto stands
4. Get a piece of timber, I used 4x2 and place on the trolley jack pad.
5. Slide trolley Jack under the the sump and jack until taking the engines weight.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psz6utwlap.jpg
6. Remove front wheels (easier access)
7. Pick a side to start on and then take your ratchet, extension and 16mm socket and get under the car. Locate the bottom engine mount nut, for this you shall be sliding the 16mm socket through the holes in the front wishbones.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...pshdr48fko.jpg
8. Once the lower nut is undone go back up top and get plenty of extensions and a knuckle with your 16mm socket attached and undo top mount nut. See below.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psgmwunhhz.jpg
9. For the M44 you shall have to remove the fan cowling and rubber intake boot as the fan blades could get broken. There maybe other items that need removal depending on application/model.
10. Slowly jack the engine always making sure that no wires or pipes are snagging anywhere. Jack the engine until you can pull out the old mount. My passenger side one was split in two!
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psognknfw7.jpg
11. Once out install the new mount paying particular attention to the way the old one came out. The bottom of the mount has a guide pin for slotting into the subframe so be sure it is sitting in place correctly before lowering the engine onto its new mount.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6cyrout4.jpg
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8jbx7jxq.jpg
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...psbjqscwtn.jpg
12. Tighten the new mount up top and from underneath and proceed to the other side.
For the passenger side you may want to remove the air box and pipe work altogether in order to make access to the top engine mount nut easier.
UNDER HERE :
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/...pscgyv68nd.jpg
You are undertaking this work at your own risk (I am in no way responsible for any work you carry out) and this "how to" is not gospel. If unsure of what you are doing bring the car to a garage and have them do it.
I would also like to claim, I have successfully created the worlds largest VIBRATOR by installing these uprated mounts.......talk about extreme!!!!

Picked this up today, it's not as clean as it looks in the photo and requires some work. I bought as (surprise, surprise) it's light and plus I wanted to see if I liked a carbon bonnet on the car before shelling out for a new item towards the end of the year.
Have to say I love how it looks against the Avus and on weekends I shall be able to spend some time freshening it up.

Great tread Cab. Enjoyed the story of the IS to what it is now. Some great mods done.

Was really tempted by that bonnet, Except I didn't like the vents. Suites your car though!
Every time I look at your car it makes me want a set of ROTA wheels. :D

RE: Super4 E36 318isc demo car
Nice addition Cab. What do you reckon the weight difference is over the standard bonnet?

Go on you know you should!!! I kerbed one the other day in a rush.....So soon off to wheelwizards for attention. Tbh the bronze coat on them is soft and chips way to easily so I shall get them all re done just much more durable.

Hi Enda, yes the bonnet is a good bit light for sure, I like the look so I shall be hunting for a more extreme carbon bonnet towards the end of the year. I have not weighed this one yet but I shall compare and post results when time permits.

I'm inclined to agree Gar, it doesn't happen to often at the temptation to hit the loud pedal is always to much and economy goes out the window as I watch the needle fall.
Nice to know all the same that I can still retain decent mileage if I tip around. Just threw in 25 and hit reset so shall what it comes back with.
