Thanks Lads, they said it was based on the readings and at on;y 1.5mm out it was replace tensioner only on the computer. It sounds exactly as it did before it went in but sure we'll see how it goes at least it's done now.

I rang them and they said my chassis number fell under the recall, so in it popped and they did a diagnostic on it. Told me it was only 1.5mm out so it only needed a tensioner, changed it, cleaned the car and off I went again, no paperwork for any work done "it's all in the key" supposedly and no money changed hands.Quote:

:D that'll do the brand good! Where did you pick that up Ken? God help anyone still in a queue or had it on a 'to do' list.Quote:

Doesn't look likely - its come down from BMW in Munich rather than an Ireland only decision, so the option of going up north isn't even available.Quote:

It's M&G who first told my brother that the recall is suspended. He rang Frank Keanes who said the exact same thing.
I'd imagine you're one of the last to get it done and given you have a booking it'll go ahead.
Hopefully so kdevitt. Car only has 115k on it and no rattling sounds. I only rang up about the recall as I saw it posts on boards.
I had been advised to change it at 150k anyhow and that had been my plan until this recall came up.
I will find out what I can on Monday and post here. My sister also had a 2010 e60 and my dad a 12 f10 both with n47 engines and I had given in their vin numbers but was told that there was no recall for those years yet, although that was three months ago.
Ok folks, so here is the update.
Brought the car in yesterday morning and it was confirmed the recall had finished and they were just clearing the backlog.
Got a call back around 3pm to say my car would need the chain changed and they would apply to BMW for goodwill to change it but wouldn't have an answer for 24/48 hours.
If it goes ahead it will be two weeks before I can be fitted in.
Some good news for others though when I collected the car the lady said that the recall had been reinstated again by BMW.
Top marks to her though she seemed very nice to deal with.
As an aside my courtesy car was a 216d.I dont know who would buy one of these. Was very skittish on the slightly greasy roads yesterday morning and didn't have the power to pull you out of bed. It just seemed to me to be a Quashqai with a nice interior and a BMW badge.
The 2 Series Active Tourer thing is front wheel drive too.Quote:

To be honest I didn't even know what it looked like when I walked out the front door to get it and had to press the key fob to see what car would flash it's lights.
My brother just rang M&G to book it in. They said they've had no notification from BMW at all, and the recall is still suspended!
Wow,I don't know what to say. That is definitely what the lady I was dealing with told me and she even took my sisters vin number to check her car but it wasn't due a recall yet.
Was any other dealer (eg Joe Duffy out Frank Keane) doing these recalls?
If so would it be worth calling them to see if they have it reinstated?
Frank Keanes had previously told him the recall was cancelled too. Have told him to contact BMW Ireland instead and see what they have to say about it.Quote:

Great news, I bet he is relieved. BMW really ain't helping themselves or the brand, leaving something like this lingering for so long and then not having a solid recall campaign.Quote:

Something to the effect of 'product vehicle enhancement'.
Correct they ain't. But you, I and everyone else is, because that's what it is! There is no excuse for this sh!t still going on in 2015 having first raised it's head in early E90 models!Quote:

Ok so, I still hadn't heard back today so I called M&G. The lady I have been dealing with wasn't available and I missed her return call.
She left a message though saying they are still waiting on BMW to make a decision on whether or not to change my chain under the goodwill gesture.
Sounds about right. My brother got some clarification, and was told they're doing a health check. They may, or may not, change the chain pending the outcome of that.Quote:

It's all a mess - M&G checked my chassis number and told me mine isn't covered despite having the N47. I rang BMW Ireland - they told me the same thing but they did suggest I have a health check so I rang M&G and they wanted 80 euro's with no guarantee that the work would be covered if it was required. A mess.Quote:

Brother had his car checked today - chain is on the verge of going. Now waiting to see if BMW will cover the replacement under good will. Absolute joke - one of the reasons for ending the recall is because they don't believe it to be an actual issue, yet a car that comes in displaying the exact issue in question might end up being sent off without the work having been done.
Does anyone know how to diagnose it without sending it into the dealer.
Hoped into the dad's car this morning and could hear something like a loose chain/belt hitting off a cover.
Hey guys, just an update. Was talking to the lady I have been dealing with in M&G this morning and BMW are covering it for me. Car is booked in for mid august so hopefully this means other people will be covered as well.
The whole thing seems to be a PR disaster. BMW's left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing at times.
Thats good news - my brother got a call to say his is being covered too.Quote:

Since then it has been a private mechanic that has looked after it though I have receipts etc to show it's been serviced very 8k.
Since it's a late 2007 build and 2008 reg I would imagine it could be covered though it's not showing any signs of issues so far ( touch wood ). It has small mileage though of 58k so would be interesting to see what they would say if they checked it.
The QE check is free irrespective of mileage and history.Quote:

I had our 08 with dealer till 2010 and independent since fully covered by BMW.
Also the mileage is irrelevant too, ours has 115km and was covered, my mams old 09 car had 26k this year and was showing signs of loosening too.

Hope everyone else can get sorted as well.
Rang Conlans in Limerick to see if my Car was covered and they said it was. Bringing it in next Wednesday.
Brought the car in today. They just replaced the tensioner, they said they checked the chains and they were ok.
Shane, did you have to specifically request that receipt/invoice/jobcard?Quote:

Rang Joe Duffy yesterday about this on an '11 318d, girl on the phone said there was nothing of the sort happening.
