Still interesting to see how the approach it though.
They don't need to be self levelling though - you just need to be able to adjust the levelling from the drivers seat - so the switch on an E30/E36 would satisfy that requirement even though not designed for HID's.Quote:

Thought all factory Xenon's were self leveling and had no height switch on the dash .
Yeah they would be, but the NCT manual allows for manually adjusted HIDs.Quote:

You better stick a little mate in the front bumper then and when he hears the wipers go he can skirt his super soaker up onto the lights :DQuote:

Just one thing to remember lads....if its a frosty morning, the washers might be frozen.
Went to do the re-test this morning and the lad came out saying that the washers still weren't working (previously failed on them being disconnected). Told him they were working, went out and weren't. Was scratching my head, and it wasnt until I was nearly home that the penny dropped....just back now with a new cert, so happy days! :)
I don't have headlight washers on mine :(Quote:

Auto Headlight Leveling not working
Wrong HID Bulbs in Headlights
I think I have it right, but just want to be 100% sure, so when I bring the car back for the re-test, I wont have it wrong and get stung twice!
In theory, they shouldnt have failed me on both?
If I have aftermarket HID Bulbs in the car (which I do) - I need Auto Headlight Leveling? in the same way you need it for Xenon's. So fail me on just the Auto Headlight Leveling.
If I change the bulbs back to standard - I dont need Auto Headlight Leveling; assuming the manual adjuster is working within the car.
Switch back to standard bulbs and make sure the adjusters are not broken , then get them alligned
Think even without the HIDs the adjsuters need to work Dave. Stupid plastic adjusters
Will check the adjusters!!
Are they an expensive part to replace? :(
Nope cheap as chips 10e a side but a pain to change
When you first turn the car on at night check if the lights raise up and down by themselves you will also hear them
I fixed mine with zip ties to tie me over for the test so if you need it fixed asap you could try that
On FL cars they are harder then PFL afaik but there is a way to do them without having to split the headlights, just need little fingers and you don't have them :tounge:
What are you trying to say @[Chrispyfish]! :D
I'll take a look at them tomorrow and see how girly these hands can get! :P @[Gar] can you help with the hands situation; and you seem to know what you are doing! :D
Sorry dave your on your own why do you think mine is held in position with zip ties im dreading doing them [emoji1]Quote:

I have replaced adjusters in 2 sets of lights. Trickiest part was getting the high beam side adjuster in. I used the round inspection/ LH RH driving lever hole on top of the lights to get it in and then held it in place with finger, while trying to screw it in with 10mm socket from the back.Quote:

I split my lamps with a heat gun.
You can check whether your lamps can be split buy removing the trim on the wing side of the lamp, the screws go glue, if the glue is gummy you can split the lamps.
Checked the lights last night; on turning the lights on, they move up, and using the manual dial inside the car, they move up and down smoothly. So there is no issue with them then? And the tester is just pointing out the the car needs Auto Leveling (similar to Xenon's) due to the bulbs that are currently in it - and then failed for the bulbs also!
Yep they sound fine dave a quick bulb swap and allignment and your sorted
The adjusters for the beam adjustment is a different adjuster.
The adjusters that break are the manual adjusters.
Grab the bulb holders at the back of the lamp, if there is a lot of movement the adjusters are broken. My adjusters were broken and I could still adjust the beam angle from inside then car.
Wasn't aware of that my driver side is gone and on start up of the car it wont move up and down i presumed this was a quick way of telling if they were gone or not
Hmmm; had a quick look at them and the play doesnt seem too bad, or excessive, but then, Im not sure what is acceptable!
If you're unsure they're unlikely to be broken, mine was really obvious I had about 2 inches of lateral movement.Quote:
