It's a complete joke though and the agents don't seem to have a clue either - explained to them that I'm currently driving a M3 and their response is that it's just down to the car ....

Just sorted out insurance for myself on E90 320d and my wife on R53 Cooper S -
For myself, I was with Zurich the past 5 years as they have been fairly competitive. This year they raised premium from €735 to €995. When I rang they reduced to €865 - this is for fully comp with step-back bonus protection. I rang around and finished with AA who insured me fully comp with full NCD protection for €685. Underwritten by AXA!
For my wife, she was with AXA last year - she had full NCD but because we only ran one car 2011 - 2015 it lapsed - Last year Axa kindly allowed full NCD based on her named driver experience and cost was €900 - this year raised to €1320. Rang AA straight away and she's no insured for €565 fully comp with full NCD protection! Underwritten by Alliance.
Both cars insured with better cover for less than my wife's Axa quote for this year. Go figure!
No rhyme or reason to insurance in this country -
Getting a joke at this stage. Zurich were looking for €900 renewal on a 04 320Ci. Up over €350 on last year. Other online quotes were up to €1400. Finally got fully comp with RSA through 123.ie at €650. What is it going to be next year?
The insurance renewal came in for the E39 525i the other day, and another big jump; surprise, surprise!
The line that I know I will hear when I ring around is; the car is older than 2004 and the insurance companies are loading these cars due to people buying cheap cars to crash them and claim injury.
Well that's understandable, but why load someone that has owned the car for near 7 years, and has had the policy with the same company for the past 3!!!
Not looking forward to the few hours ringing around....looks like the AA might be the first place to chance!
Try bank of Ireland Dave , I got a great quote off them this year and mines an 01 I'm actually paying less then I paid last year

Thanks Gar - will try them too!
I've probably mentioned it in this thread already, but I got a very good quote on the M3 from An Post. I'd def give them a call if you're struggling!
Cheers Nige
I ended up going with An Post with the 530d as they were the most competitive! Still paid more than my current policy on the M3

I got screwed over. Went with a new policy from BOI, but they didn't accept my documentation, so I went back to my previous provider 123. Since I had 1 day of insurance on BOI, 123 said I couldn't renew, that it was new business, so the quote was €1930 (new business) instead of €783 (renewal). Ended up back at BOI for €1200. A plague upon all their houses.
