What's the difference? One is a mechanical device designed to enhance a cars road holding ability and the other is a blob of molten metal.Quote:

Misread what I wrote? A 'shimmed up' lsd. you can shim them up until they're nearly locked if you really want to.
Im not condoning welded diffs at all, but a lot of people seem to jump on the bandwagon with them being dangerous etc.(whether thats from personal experience or 2nd hand information, I don't know) but no-one seems to say anything about the dirt cheap crappy tires on the market that are useless on the road, which is way more dangerous imo.
Drove a 530d the other week(on nearly new chinese-y tires) that scared the crap out of me, was all over the shop, understeering everywhere.(every bush was 100%)Hense, my comment about the tires.
Also I might add what about a sti? You can lock all diffs manually in those as standard, they illegal now ?
Came from factory like that? Not illegal.Quote:

Also should be a good read if it has the legs http://www.driftireland.com/forum/showthread.php?44653-Gardai-seizing-cars-PSV-welded-diffs-danger-etc-Discuss
Quote (Was it a she by any chance no :) welded are okish but quite dangerous most of the time, it's the clowns that drive them and there ball a s*** twincams on every crossroad across the land. Can you imagine the fun they'd have up around Donega catching yuppies !! I wasn't sure if they wear illegal as such as cars will pass an nct like that, what about the spool boys or a very tight 2way I wonder even a 1.5 can be tricky at times. I wouldn't use a welder only ever used lsds but have driven quite a few I wouldn't advise most)
Theres no twincams with welded diffs.they come standard with a lsd like a m3, m5 or any other sports car.and aftermarket lsds are readily available.ive had a few cars with welded diffs and to be honest they are a nightmare in the wet. I would never have one as a daily driver especially the embarrasment of parking.and I don't get people that have welded diffs in decent cars worth over a few grand. Imo its acceptable to have it in a car worth less than 1k thats used purely for goin to events like the one that was held.and alot of people cant bring the cars on a trailer or tow with all the new laws.so what are you supposed to do.if theres a full window the guards should let them through depending on the individual of course
