Unfortunately I haven't been able to tackle the car as often as I used to due to a combination of moving and new job plus have no access to a tap at my new place so washing car is a lot more difficult. Only washed it twice in last 3 months which is very little for me.
A few weeks ago I ordered some paint from paints4u to tackle some scratches on the cars as shown in mackers thread. Order arrives on the Friday, get talking to the uncle the next day asking for advice on tackling paint rust spots, got the colour codes and order another 3 tins of paint from paints4u. Went to the uncles the following week to tackle the car, perfect time to pick up a few bits in halfrauds, clay mitt sandpaper and lacquer.
Thank god for the clay mitt, saved me easily 2hrs. [emoji12]The car in question was a '04 voyager, not a small car, closer to a transit than a car. In the space of 6hrs, managed to wash the voyager and a golf, sand down the rust spots, treat with krust and single stage polish the voyager (minus rear bumper, beneath side trim and roof). I then cleaned out the stone chips and applied paint.
The following day I checked if the paint had cured which it hadn't so will tackle these bits again at a later date. Also have to tackle the wheels and tar covered lower doors and the other car, a 09 golf
Saved yourself 5 hours? Dont know what way you are claying with a clay bar; even if it was a Transit, it should only take 2 hours!
Also, you say you have to tackle the car on the lower doors....did you clay the car before removing the tar? Perhaps the reason claying with the clay bar is taking so long is that you havent help the decontamination process by using a fall out remover and tar remover first....if you use both of these, claying a car should really only take an hour, max! Perhaps the clay mitt isnt removing as much as it should either, if you are getting it done so quickly?
Anyways, fair play on tackling the paintwork - get some pics up when you get it done! ;)
Maybe 5 hours was an overstatement [emoji12] but easy took 25% of the time it would with a normal clay bar. Claying a full car would take me 2-3 hours as I take my time and constantly lube and kneed the clay. Voyager would def take me 3 hours with normal clay. It was 25 degrees on the day so wasnt in a massive hurry.Quote:

Have you got a bit of clay bar? Preferably white!
Purely out of curiosity....Id be interested to see what results you would get if you clayed both the rear 1/4 panels with with clay bar, like you would have previously, without kneading it to a fresh surface. If the clay mitt did a good job, when there shouldnt really be anything on the surface.
Have no clay bar with me unfortunately [emoji20] like for like I think a clay bar would take up more contamination but takes longer and chance of marring. For my own car realistically I would clay bar if given the chance 1 or 2 years and use the mitt for interm claying maybe once a year minimum if you understand.Quote:

Have a scrap panel at home, must polish it then clay mitt it to see how it holds up. Will be Christmas before I can try it unfortunately [emoji20]
Sorry for posting this here. Can anybody recommend me a power washer or tell me what the nilfisk c110 is like.
Thanks
All Nilfisk machines are solid.
If you polish it, it will remove quite a bit of contamination and as a result there wony be anything to cause damage when using the mitt....unless you use the mitt on it after claying a different car that had contamination.Quote:

Long time since I posted on the haus let alone on the detailing section [emoji12]
So been living in Birmingham for the last 3 months. No access to tap so washing involved a lot of buckets and never really got it perfect.
Finally got round to giving the car a proper wash at the uncles plus quick detailer and trim restore

She is seriously spotless ! Wow! Impressed to say the least Owen, fair play to you  I bet you have missed her over the last three months :smiling:
Good to finally get her cleaned properly. To put it in perspective this is probably the last time I will wash her. Car is sold to the brother just have to drive it back to Ireland at Halloween, hand over the keys and then back on a flight back to London [emoji20]Quote:

Lots of marring still to be corrected but a clean example, will miss it but have no need for the car since I'm in London, will be moving to next placement in march so will look at upgrading then [emoji16]Quote:

Today I gave the old girl a good going over. Washed and dried. Polished with Chemical Guys Black light and waxed with Dark angel. Dressed the tyres and went over the trim with Gtechniq Trim Restorer. Gave the windows a rub and splashed some bares bones around the arches. Happy days she is sparking.

Removed the numberplate at the rear and gave the boot a good clean finally protecting the Carbon fiber CSL boot spoiler with 2 coats of Wolfs Chemical Hard Body. After that started to protect the boot with Chemical Guys Pete53 followed by some Blacklight... just the front wheel left and I can start with the rest of the bodywork :smiling:

While detailing the car started to get the battery charge back to its good levels...
Car and garage are looking well Harry! :)
Thanks a million Dave, appreciated  Happy out with the Garage although there are still some little jobs to be finished. The IS is slowly but surely getting there. Being a fussy fec** there are certain parts which will need to be repainted such as the front and rear bumper as there seem to be cracks under the clear coat if that makes sense? Nosecone will be another part which needs to be addressed. I don't think that it will be possible to wet sand them away so think re-paint is the only option  ... that is unless I decide to keep her as such to give her even more the sleeper look :smiling: I will certainly take the occasion to give the car a new enhancement from a bodywork perspective as she is nearly finished the way I had her in my head so... watch this space :cooler:
@ harry, any pics of the cracks? might be wrinkling, where the paint reacted with something underneath, i have the same issue on a section on my quarter, eventually i'll probably touch up some parts. that's the problem with cleaning the fecker, you get to see everything wrong with them! little marks everywhere, would really require a full repaint to be right. not something i want to do on a cheap daily.
