RE: Fuel prices coming down
Its great that the price has dropped but has anyone noticed a substantial saving to their fuel bill in comparison to a few months ago when it was circa 1.50/L?
For example a 55L tank at 1.5= €82.5
Now 55L @ 1.3 = €71.5
So unless you are using a full tank a week your only going to save roughly a tenner. I probably use half that a week so €5-6 is my savings currently.
For reps, haulage etc. it would be a worthwhile saving alright but for the average joe not so much, it would want to drop to €1L for me to notice anything substantial.
This is why I can't understand people queueing up at stations on the night before budget changes come in, they probably burn off their savings waiting in the queue! Or people who drive miles to a service station that has fuel a couple of cents cheaper.
Don't get me wrong I am not complaining but I don't get why the joe public is so price sensitive to fuel. If we could get the govt to remove some of their duties/VAT etc, we could really have substantial savings then alright.
Re: Fuel prices coming down
I'm probably driving a bit easier but, I've been getting a weeks driving on 55euro worth of petrol whereas before it was costing 70odd euro a week and it's always the same journeys! So nearly twenty a week for me!

Your right and to some people that will mean more food on the table etc, all depends on personal circumstances I guess.
RE: Fuel prices coming down
1.18/L diesel in Mount Brown earlier on..I'm struggling to think when I last saw that! Now I gotta start re-tuning myself to look at petrol prices :D
RE: Fuel prices coming down
I've been driving on Applegreen fuel (from the M4 stations) almost exclusively for 4000ish miles.
Brimmed it at Maynooth Maxol just to see if I could feel a difference. Have done about half a tank so far and haven't noticed any MPG or performance differences as yet.

I'm using nearly 70L of diesel a week so at the minute I'm saving 20 quid a week which is a thousand euro a year :surprised: Thats the price of a very nice holiday

That's good going alright! Like I said it's very good to anyone on long haul commutes and haulage companies etc. Seems to be dropping more every day too!
RE: Fuel prices coming down
Just went digging at the historical averages.. The last time we seen similar prices was January 2009. The higest in the recent past was September 2011, petrol @ 1.70/L & Diesel @ 1.60/L, the national averages.
Got to go back 10+ years to get to €0.cc/L prices!
