530d taxed as 2 litre
Well lads seen a lot of 530s up on donedeal saying 2 litre on the book.
Rang one guy and he said its taxed as a 2.0 but he has it insured as a 3.0.
Just wondering how this all came about and can it still be done?!
Obviously makes owning one slightly more appealing haha

if ya know someone in a garage you can get them to sign it off as a 2 litre as if ya had a engine conversion done.
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
It's simple. You fill in a form saying the engine has changed to a 2.0 and it's signed and stamped by a registered garage.
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
and some insurance companies will send car for another engine replacement prove form from main dealer .
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
Anybody in a bmw dealership want to make some tax free euros? I joke. All motor engineer reports have to be done by main dealer as from a few years ago. I've heard of people going to the extreme of removing the big engine and replacing it with a smaller unit just for an engineer report and then reinstalling the big lump back in.
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
It's a lot off work but it could save you up to a 1000 a year. I wouldn't mind getting the 330i into a 710 tax bracket.
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
I phoned the tax office 2 months ago and asked about it having to be a bmw dealer for a bmw etc, woman said any main dealer stamp would do and she sent me the form
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
So a seat/vw main dealer would work? Hum!
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
So just get the form, fill it in and get it stamped and then bring it in to tax office and it will be done?!
Is it just that easy? And what are the enthusiasts views on doing this
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
What happens if you get caught?
Tax is tax regardless of whether its called car tax or income tax, so not paying the full amount is tax evasion, would the current owner be caught for all the previous unpaid tax? Plus penalties?
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
I'd do this in a heartbeat if I could on the M3. People usually chime in with the same nonesense that if you can't afford the tax you can't afford an m3. Taxing and running the M3 isn't a problem, paying €511 a quarter for a car that's driven twice a month is hard to justify! So if anyone can sort it feel free to PM me.
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
If it's a 6 cylinder BMW engine for example we'll say on an e36....they are very hard to tell the difference unless you actually know what to look for. What is to stop someone so inclined putting a 2.8 into a 2 liter and saying they were none the wiser and "it was like that when I bought it".
I assume that engine swaps stamped or not are rife and have been for years?
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
I think the problem would arise when they look at both discs side by side in the window
You will have insurance M3 or 328 then tax directly beside it saying 318 or 320
No need to even lift the bonnet

Assuming it's insured correctly but that's a whole other welly of fish...

I discovered (nearly 2 years after buying the car...) that my car says BMW "other" on NCT Disc, no mention of model on insurance disc, and on the tax disc it's just the engine size.
It was the same on another member's e36, I heard it's on e46s onwards that it says the model but don't know how true that is or why it would be the case. My car is begging for it really, but I just prefer a hassle free existence :p

If its not then they may as well not even bother putting anything in the windscreen

Mine siad 318 on both discs on my e36 , personally i couldn't give a shite if people tax it as a 1.1 as long as you have insurance ,iv argued both sides of the argument in the past
My nct even has it

As for eco warriors ?? Not sure what that means something to do with emissions ,saving the whales or recycling perhaps

RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
Nah just recycle the whales Gar :tounge:

RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
Its been asked already but does anybody know what happens if you get caught?
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
There has to be a few conversions on here I'm sure. If I had one I'd never be replying to a thread like this. But then lads will do conversions and put pics on a public forum too.....

RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
Personnaly I have no trouble with lads having maybe a 330D as a 2.0l or a 328i as a 2.0 but INSURED correctly.
It's where lads put M3 engines into a 316i and tax/insure as a 316i I think the problem is.
Off Topic: I was offered €300 for a E46 320D tax book, So it could be used on a UK 330D. (No I didn't take it!)

+1, once insurance is valid It wouldn't bother me what she was taxed as as.
Actually it's something I may even look for on my next purchase.

RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
Iv rang a few lads that are selling 530s that are 2 litre on the book and in fairness to them everyone one of them said that theyre insured correctly and never get any hassle so i couldnt really see anything wrong in doing it, just wanted other peoples opinion on it... At the end of the day, car tax in this country is a joke anyways.
Anyways, anyone able to change a 530 to a 2 litre on the book? Pm me.

Seems impossible to find an answer iv yet to see anyone actually done for it, they pull in so much money from road users for tax and vrt at present that it doesn't seem to be an issue

Read a bit of that thread too and just sorta went off topic!
The country is screwing people enoigh never mind car tax, so i dont see any problem with it at all once its insured correctly

RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
They've clamped down on this big time, with you now having to get a main dealer stamp.
It'll be a tricky thing to get a main dealer to agree to a fraudulent engine swap.
Shame though, as it seemed like a solution to the extortionate tax.
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
I thought the NCT started looking at these from this year ?
Without rehashing the other thread. If there was an accident surely insurers would look for any excuse not to pay out. Would an official declaration that your vehicle has a different engine installed in it not be an easy out for them ?
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
I'm full of links today ....better than what I'm usually full of
http://www.rsa.ie/rsa/your-vehicle/your-vehicle-/nct/modified-vehicles-/
"Any modification to a vehicle which has safety implications must be approved in writing by the vehicle manufacturer. Where this is not possible certification by an automotive or mechanical engineer that the modifications have been assessed and found to be safe must be provided by the vehicle owner/presenter.
Tyres should be inflated to the required pressure before a test is started otherwise test results may be misleading.
Where the brakes cannot be tested on a roller brake tester, due to the design of the vehicle, a road test must be carried out using a decelerometer to evaluate the brake performance"

Now does a bigger engine equal a safety concern?

They did it themselves for a good while with some 645i by mistakenly registering them as a 3 litre.

That's the big issue IMHO. As part of the agreement of your insurers, the vehicle that is insured must be road legal I.e if it's down as a 2l but it's actually a 3l then that's illegal, end of.

RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
I'm looking at buying one of these mis-represented cars. My concern is how to get it back on the system properly. Can a dealer do an inspection and you change back based on that?
-
RE: 530d taxed as 2 litre
Anymore on this or anyone who can do it for me?
