Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
Heard on a radio advert this morning that this is coming in from December onwards. But can't seem to find any info on it online. Basically stated that how it is at the minute that if you have it booked you can drive will be no more.
It didn't clarify whether this included retests but did go to the trouble of saying that it is possible to book in advance of your nct expiring but that test centers are very busy.
Anyone else hear or have any info on this? In what way is this a revision of the current stance?

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
thought that was case already. Ive been up in court for having no nct though i had booking for retest on phone. As prosecuting gaurd said technically without valid nct disc car is deemed unroadworthy, tis easy have a booking on phone and keep rebooking dates

Re: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
A wiser move would be to scrap the nct centre and do the test in a garage like the mot's it would spread the workload keep garages busy and cut the waiting times

I'm not sure Shaun, I always assumed it was a digression thing with the garda at the time or that it was something that was accepted but not necessarily legal.

What was the outcome in court ? If you proved you had it booked

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
It it takes over two months waiting time to get a booking how can they enforce this, until the waiting times are sorted.
I just checked there My Convertible that I just bought, I am waiting for the new log book to arrive nct is up on 14 November but the first available date for a nct is November 18th

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
The joys of having a friend that work in the nct centre
I may not get a free pass but I do get a test time straight away :)

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
my nct is out since march, booked it in February and got a test in july, had to cancel the july one as had a death in the family and booked it again, the date I got was 4th of November..im driving the car all the time and have a print out for the guards if im stopped, hope they accept it as proof but either way theres too long to wait, should be done in garage like mot.so much hassle waiting,my bookings were done online so I would have proof in case I was stopped..if that new law comes in they would need to book tests 4 months in advance so as not to be liable for penalty points..very stupid ..

I have a look at the RSA site and can't see anything about this.

Large fine, had paperwork showing what it failed and and brought in pass sheet too.

NCT is a money-making joke. I've often recommended work to customers with NCT's coming up and had them chance it and pass. It makes garages look like liars and chancers.

From the Irish Independent
Todays Atricle about penelty points from December http://www.independent.ie/life/motor...-30627732.html
I found this info after 2 minutes searching in Google :)

So did it come in back in May and is only being enforced from December on?

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
I must be lucky I rang up on Monday and got a test for tomorrow in Athlone!

This has been in place since May '09 by the looks of it. Delighted to see Fine Gael's take on it in the above article, so let's all hope they get into power soon and end this nonsense

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
its all comming like in most countries all around te world ,no TAX no drive ,no NCT no drive ,no Insurance no drive !
people will not want to buy car without NCT ,if now they still can buy and use even temporary ,so now no use at all .
if u have car for longer time and it has NCT ,athats mean U must to book it in 90 days in advance before it will finish ,and its enough time to sort everything so no day without NCT

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
Yes but in a lot of other countries tax nct and insurance isnt a pure rip off. Nct is the biggest joke iv ever seen it should be like england would be cheaper and no delays. Tax is also a joke our roads are a total disgrace.

Like England ? It should be as is here and in most countries all around ,only special garages should check them ,but testers should be more professional and have responsability of their work .this is one of the problems why cars are in not very good nick even after they pass NCT .and car without NCT cant be road leagle or insured .idiots driving on the road with bold tires, without mirrors ,without lights and so on .this should be fixed and it should be made more attention on cars on the road .if light not working ,garda should stop driver and make notice .

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
True but the waiting lists for ncts are a joke there needs to either be more of them off let competent garages do it. If i buy a car with no nct i have to park the car up for up to 2 months before i can test it bit of a joke i think
-
RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
i would say u would win this if car is just bought and NCT cant take your car very quick

Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
Yes there's loads of issues with it but tbh everytime I ring them up I get onto a cancellation list. Always end up with a Saturday/Sunday appointment within 2-3 weeks.
Also there's a you have a 3 month window to book the car in before it's due. Any Gard I've ever spoken to before about this always says that once your only a month or two out and have tax/insurance then they don't bother. If you acting the tool then they'll use it against you!
As for the MOT set up, stop will yis! We for once have the theory of it bang on but just not the practice. Northern Ireland now have MOT test centres like our own I think?

Penalty points for no nct even when booked?

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
For the first time in my life, I have both cars taxed, insured & NCT'd at the same time. And do you think I've seen any check points?? Not a hope of it..
I'm almost ready to go looking for some just so I can feel what it's like to roll up and not be concerned that I'm breaking one or more laws!!

RE: Penalty points for no nct even when booked?
According to the Garda Traffic Twitter account, discretion is being used on this half arsed RSA backed fcuk up. If your car is in order with tax/insurance/tyres and you have your seatbelt on/no mobile phone use etc along with proof of NCT appointment, you will be sent on your way.
