[e60] key stopped working ..help needed
hi guys,
suddenly, my master key stopped working (dropped keys on the floor), all seem to be ok, mean arms and disarms alarm, unlocking doors and boot but won't start the car ... when in ignition slot and turned to position 1 or 2 dash doesn't light up.
Battery is ok as tried with Mick new one without joy ..
any ideas how to fix it or how much will cost new one.
thanks in advance
kris

RE: [e60] key stopped working ..help needed

2nd key opens the doors, starting the car but somehow doesn't disarm alarm ...

I thought you should be able to start the car with the plastic key, I don't believe the plastic key is internally coded.
It's just that you don't get ignition, from my experience when there's a problem with the key, the car will come on and turn over but you won't get ignition.
RE: [e60] key stopped working ..help needed
didn't try plastic one yet, mate...thought is a kind of service key
RE: [e60] key stopped working ..help needed
It is a service key it doesn't open the boot or glovebox but does everything else , if the car was locked using the diamond key it would have been armed/alarmed so when you come back and open the car using the key in the door the alarm will keep going off until the keys put in the ignition

Thanks mate I'll try it in the morning as carrying 2 keys: one to disarm and 2nd to start the car is a bit of pain in a**e

there's a sequence of buttons to press while turning key in ignition to re programme it. I did it with my e46 diamond key. google it.
