e39 headlight adjusters...
Found this while searching on options about the job! Hopefully its of use to someone here:
Its to fix the adjusters without splitting or cutting into the top

I always do them from the back, you need small fingers though and a lot of patience and ideally an old headlight beside you to see how they work.

Send Evolve Phil a text as I don't think he ever used his metal adjusters. He just bought a brand new set of xenon headlamps (as ya do!)

Headlight adjusters
These were the ones I used, they were very well made, you need to buy two sets though. I think I paid about €80 after all was said and done.

No mines are hardened plastic. I was just suggesting for less than a tenner they might not be up to scratch, but who knows maybe they will do just fine.

I would still be concerned about plasticiser migration with any plastic adjuster.
