IMHO they do nothing for a black car! Tried them on my old e60 and thought they made it look cheap and tacky.....

I think if they are painted properly in gloss black then you would be safe, looking at the 2 pictures I feel the chrome grills actually date the front end of car. If the grills were to be painted in matte black for instance then yes they would look horrendous. After all BMW did bring out the "BMW Performance" range of black grills for some models like E92 and they looked very well imo. I think with the car being black and grills being black it will turn out very well. If it was another color say blue, red etc it may not look so good.
I put theses on the F10 when I had it, I loved them but the car was white.

But as e60 Dave said they don't have the same effect on a black car. I'd prob keep it the way it is, its too good to touch....

Only thing that really matters is what you like. It's worth giving the black a try anyway. You can always go back to standard very easily.

I agree with Cab, the originals date the car a bit, but then black looks a bit ganster...Ive had the same issue with my E39 grilles and cant bring myself to put back on the chrome even though Im not overly pleased with the black either (matte)...that said, if I got gloss black and detailed the car it would be a lot better.
Catch 22, but I think the black is slightly better...but the changing back and forth isnt a killer job!
I vote stay chrome. I am a big fan of the gloss black but on a black car it gets washed out and makes the front look empty, only looks good with a contrasting colour. Another idea is to have the slats black but the frame in chrome....that is the best of both worlds, I have seen people wrap the slats. The text at the bottom of the reg surrounds is fussy IMHO (I had them on my M5 but I have since changed my mind). German font has been ruined for us all by the Audi and VW lads.
That being said an M6 is a special motor, your not tarting up a 630i to look like something else and you should have it as you like it. A totally blacked out M6 wheels, windows, grills etc can look awesome.
Chrome.........Black grilles do not look good on a black car.
I love the chrome one my e46 and e39, however I think there's a case to be made for black on the e63.
The chrome appears to flatten the nose of the car and the black seems to round it off a bit. If you could get another set of grilles to try it with you definitely should!

I have been considering this mod since I first got my 630i 6 years ago. I've the M6 2.5 years now and it popped in to my head again. Black grilles are an option on most new BMWs now and that's what got me thinking.
Still undecided, I do like the aggressive look black on black gives though, I was also considering a privacy tint on the rear windows.
I'd say go for it Mark :) it's nothing permanent and it'll freshen it up a bit. At least if you don't like it, you can change it back and not wonder anymore... 6 years is a long time to umm and err about a small mod!Quote:
