PerfectCar garage projects E30 sr20det
Here is we will start, our garage projects tread. From time to time we doing all kind of engine, suspension, drivertrane swaps. So here we will try to give you some information and explanation how on or another swap takes place.
Today we have interesting project,we have two e36 cabs, one is 323 another 318.So the plan engine from 323 goes in to 318,and 2.8 engine goes in to 323.
Some more info on 323 engine,it will be running full M3 evo exhaust including exhaust manifolds, also M50 2,5 inlet manifold will be fitted too.And just maybe we will be running a M20 single mass flywheel too(we will see on this)
Here is few pictures and how cars looked prior to work commenced

Excellent thanks very much! for posting! I’d love you to continue to this.
Can I ask what you mean about the “two nut technique”?
Also is there any product you could recommend for removing oil when cleaning the engine? Thanks

Two nut techniques
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66ATKL4G04M
I clean the engines with atomic cocktail, engine degreaser plus some fairy liquid and lots of love :)
Right so the engine nearly dressed up and ready to jump in to the new home/body
M50 manifold is on,fuel rail brackets made up,M50 crank breather system installed(good we had one M50 lying around),also bracket for dipstick fabricated, and few other minor things tidied up

RE: PerfectCar garage projects(M57 hybrid turbo in e36 pg2)
Another week another project-and i think it will be a long term-er,because there is a lot of ideas what we going to do with it.
First job is BIG hybrid turbo-made from hot part of X5 and cold part of Mercedes 3.2cdi,and custom mapping.
turbo out and another ready to go in

Last pieces of the puzzle went in to engine bay,and engine conversion is compete. All looks tidy and OEM that's what we like here in Perfect Car :)
M50 manifold and full M3 exhaust gives some raspines to M52,and it definitely livelier.
I think Gerard will be pleasantly surprised after the first test drive :) Enjoy

RE: PerfectCar garage projects(M57 hybrid turbo in e36 pg2)
Is there much in splitting the turbo housings from each other? Can those model turbos be clocked so as to change angle at which the cold air comes out or does it affect oil return?
Looking forward to following the m57 thread! Will you be using the oil filled mounts with vacuum or just normal rubber ones?

Well you cant really split them and make the desired angle, but to be honest X5 and 320cdi turbos bolt in same way to the engines,so when they mated together they are it very good shape. All we needed to do is re-root the turbo return pipe, and make a small dent in chassis leg to clear the vacuum actuator.
This engine conversion uses normal rubber engine mounts.
RE: PerfectCar garage projects(M57 hybrid turbo in e36 pg2)
Ok so new update for now, turbo is in its place, bolted and connected, everything worked really good, didnt need too much modification to get it in,just had to put small dent on to the chassis led for vacuum actuator.
Also we got it mapped :) and now this car is shifting :) on the slightly damp road 3 gear wheel spins easy doable with out de-clutching.Some time it could be scare, you have to be awake all the time, because it could catch you any second.
No it need brakes-badly

This week we had a nice job on our hands.Customer brought in e30 which he is building for amateur drift events. All wee had to do is wire up and start the engine. And talking about the engine it is a heart from S14 silvia SR20DET :) i know purist bmw lovers will hate that project but it is actually very good engine and it fits e30 chassis very neat indeed.
To be honest to get bm engine started it is so much easier, less wires too.But if customer wants it we trying to deliver every time.
