RE: Things to do in Florida?
"Things to do in Florida?"
My main thing would be not to go to the airport and return to Ireland...
Its unreal, great place went to Orlando 3 years in a row and would go back if funds allowed.
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Plan to get nice and fat over there John :)
Don't worry Chris, we have a LOT planned, just thought I'd post in case there's a motoring related thing or something like that I may have forgotten about. We're staying in Florida for 16 nights and then heading to the Bahamas for 7 nights and then back to reality :p
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Did this last time I was there http://orlando.iflyworld.com indoor skydiving it's amazing! Would of done it more times but it was booked out
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Nice one man, sounds cool! More suggestions like that :p
RE: Things to do in Florida?
There is gun ranges you can go and fire some guns that will probably never be seen on these shores, never done it myself but its suppose to be great ;)
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Not a massive gun enthusiast myself I have to say.. Will see if I can sneak the rental car on to the Daytona speedway though :p
I have a Mustang convertible "or similar" booked for us, called up to see what the "similar" cars can be, and they said either a Camaro (which would be my preference) or................................................ ........... a chrysler 200...... .....I think I'd rather rent bicycles :D
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Wet n wild, the best watermark IN THE WORLD???
Bush gardens, best roller coasters,
They are around international drive, we drove all over Florida, Daytona was animal!
And the last leg we went to Clearwater bay, beautiful spot stay in the Clearwater bay hotel, lush...
Get a decent big motor with auto v8 if your traveling
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Apart from all the above, I enjoyed going to Cape Kennedy.
Universal Islands of Adventure was the best theme park I was in.
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Thanks Felix, Cape Kennedy is part of the plan :D And after much debate Universal Studios is the park we're going to, so glad to hear more good feedback :)

WHAT IS THERE TO DEBATE :surprised: :surprised:
If she is the one debating leave her at home :D:D
You have to do some parks when there but Disney be near the bottom of the list so Universal is a great choice
RE: Things to do in Florida?
The lads have already hit the key ones for me.
Universal (both parks), Wet n' Wild, Busch Gardens. If you have kids (mainly boys) Gator land is good crack. Ripleys good for and hour to 2.
Clearwater is a nice place to chill for a day or 2, get a hotel on the beach.
Else, you can't go wrong. Great place, great holiday.
Just bring your credit card.
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Yep Clearwater is on the list too... Herself has been researching this for the last 6 months to make the most of it ( lucky for me :D ) so I think she pretty much has everything in the plan. Was hoping there was maybe a cool car related thing to go to as she wouldn't have researched that :p
Looking forward to it now! Cheers for the replies :)
Will look into the indoor sky diving - sounds great!
RE: Things to do in Florida?
I know mostly Florid been there loads!
For the car thing we rented a convertible and planned to upgrade at the desk to a Camero or the new challenger (as they were in the sport class not the convertible class so we knew there would be a charge)
They tried to charge us 750$ for the week. Told them (nicely, dont piss them off an they will go out of there way to help you) to get f***ed (GF worked for Thrifty over here at the time and knew well that they were just trying to add on as much as possible, basically the staff are looking to upgrade you as it helps there comission, they look to charge you as much as possible but at the end of the day they will upgrade you on a really cheap rate if you hold your ground) Your man ended up charging us 100$ to upgrade for the week in the end and we went out and had our pick of cars, took the challenger it was easily the best thing about the trip (We rented with Dollar but all the rental companies are the same)
1st thing is in the supermarkets pick up loads of the coupon books - they have lots of information and coupons for the little things (Crazy golf, gun range vouchers etc etc etc)
On waterparks - Aquaticia is the newest water park there its awesome, its the Sea World one and they are getting a lot of sh1t at the moment but its still epic, the same with Sea World, again they are getting a lot of sh1t but been there enough and talked to a few trainers outside of work off the record and there are two sides to every story, its worth a visit at the end of the day.
Downtown Disney is worth a visit some evening, its free and you can walk about and they have alot of things on, and the Circe De Solil show is good there too.
There is a place called Oldtown, off 192, they have some cool attractions (A sling shot and pendulum drop) there is also a car show 1 night each week (I think its on a Wed but not 100% sure on that) It runs early enough and worth a visit
There is Busch Gardens for roller coasters though that is in Tampa (hour and a half drive from Orlando) and the Kennedy Space Center also about an hour and a half drive but if you like rockets and space stuff it is 100% worth the visit, I wouldn't bring anyone who doesn't find it interesting though as they will be bored!!
Shopping is worth going to The Florida Mall far too many shops to get around in one trip!
Outside of Orlando there is the keys and clear water they are really nice! And Miami, a word of warning on Miami, it can be VERY VERY EXPENSIVE if your drinking so watch out (I'm talking 75$ for 4 jagers and one red bull) but other than that its nice and worth a visit.
Can't think of anything else off hand but there is too much to remember anyways!
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Thanks for the tips Gek! All of what you mentioned is on our route and most of it is part of the plan, we decided to give Sea world a miss though as we're trying to prioritise. 75$ for 4 drinks certainly isn't cheap, but it's just myself and the girlfriend and it's our first time there, so it won't be a lads trip / massive piss up kind of thing :p
RE: Things to do in Florida?
My god Miami's amazing!!! We've done so much already... First of all we got the mustang :D (phew) although I did test the tip gek mentioned above and yes it works they wanted 75$ per day extra for a BMW z4, after a little talking they went down to 35$!!! And then I said no thanks and stuck with the mustang, imagine how many people just pay the 75 though - huge difference!
Anyway, didn't like the gearbox (dim witted auto) and suspension (soft/squidgy/feels like the shocks and spring weren't designed to work with one another) but then I saw the little + and - on the gear knob and THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING!!! in sport with the "manual" shifting it's a lot of fun!!! Add the roar from the exhaust and no roof and you really fall in love with it. Although suspension is still. Bit annoying.
Car aside, we've been to miami beach - ocean drive, checked out the Art Deco buildings, went to little Havana, had some delicious Cuban food, coffee and bought some proper Cuban cigars, checked out down town, went on a boat tour around milloonaire's row, went to coconut grove and other places but the names escape me right now...
I've lost count of the incredible cars and generally cars that i see for the first time there in person
Been to wallmart just now and everything is as cheap as it's made out to be in documentaries, movies etc. now taking a bit of a break and then going to check out the night life in south beach.
Million photos taken Already (she bought a new camera and isn't afraid to use it!!) :D Will post a few of them as soon as I get a chance to upload them.
Thanks again for tips/advice :)
RE: Things to do in Florida?

Enjoy it and spoil yourselfs, you only live once
HAVE A BALL!!!! :-)
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Cheers Mick :) We just made it to Key West now, the road over here was just beautiful! We were on a cruise tour in Fort Lauderdale yesterday and then went out to a place called Mango's Tropical Cafe on south beach last night. Amazing! 60$ for a massive cocktail to share but no entry fee and they put on I don't know how many shows in the space of time we were there, gorgeous Latina ladies with hardly any clothes on shaking what they got with fruit hats and such :D feel like we know miami like the back of our hands now, gonna go exploring here now and see what this place has to offer :)
Want to post photos but there's just so many of them it's overwhelming! Will do for sure though :)
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Sounds like we have to a lot to talk about when you come back bud ;)
As the others said have a blast and if you fancy it when I went back in the days one thing I did was a short flight on the helicopter over the Keys from Marathon Island as you get to Key West... fabulous ! Something else I can suggest, if you are into it, is diving...pure class ! Enjoy bud and chat soon :smiling:
RE: Things to do in Florida?
enjoy it as much as you can Peter fair play to ye
RE: Things to do in Florida?
Well that was fun! But no matter where I go, it's always great to be back. This little green island sure ain't perfect but I love it :D
As promised once the 15,000 photos she took are uploaded from the fancy camera I will post a few up. Hard to say what the highlight was but I think going on a day trip to the uninhabited Exumas Islands of the Bahamas and snorkelling with sharks is probably one! Hope the under water camera worked! :D
