I don't get them, IMO they're awful looking, horrible engine noise, stupid rear doors...
I know someone who bought one new and he had to check the oil every time he put fuel in it, plus there's a lot of talk out there about the engines going bang early
Do they even get cheap tax here as a 1.3?
I'd have a 350Z over one all day long
I believe these engine are delicate and need a life of proper oil or rebuild time, they are at that price now were people wont be upkeeping them right so dunno if i be buying one.
I had a 04 192bhp one many years ago. Kept it 6 months and ditched it cause it was terrible. Horrid fuel consumption, actually pretty slow and hard to ring the power out of the engine without ragging it, no torque, unreliable, flooding issues twice, new battery, new starter motor, new coils.....unreliable.Quote:

Taxed as a 1.8 and are a pain in the hole of a car! Neighbour has one and in order to prevent/limit engine flooding he has to rev the shite out of it whilst switching the ignition off when parking up! (random fact of ownership).
Like Leins, I'm not into the styling and fail to see the point of stupid doors, never mind the additional over head in maintainence.
Thanks guys! Only started doing some research on them when he told me his plans! They are fairly cheap in the UK - he could pick up a low mileage one for 8k quid..
This is only going to be a weekend car and he's not willing to go above 2l. I suggested a 350z but that's out of the question
S2000 is a far better car in that bracket. The reason the Rx8 is so cheap is cause its a dog. Good handling means nothing with power. It uses nearly as much fuel as the e60 m5...seriously thats just not on.Quote:

Tell him to buy an rx7 :)
He seems to be set on the rx8 but we're trying to change that! Max spend is 14k and he definitely won't be driving a mini!:dodgy:
So we have:
S2000
Audi TT
Would a lotus fall into this bracket?
Edit
Gar he wants a newish car and aren't rx7s pretty expensive?
Oh and our housemate has an Astra OPC so no point in having 2. Perhaps a focus ST?
350Z. Great car, big V6 engine, lovely interior and really good handling, it's super easy to have a laugh in it. The brakes are pretty good too if you get an Irish/English non import one (there was different spec levels in Japan, but we only got the top spec one)
Richie in ProParts had a 350z for 5 years reckons its the best car he owned and only had to change the altenator or starter (or somethig small) in that period of time!!
He has a big budget Shane for a nice car tell him to ditch the rx8 idea.
What about an Evo? If its weekend only. Golf gti?
Plenty of good cars out there
He'd easily get one in that budget with change to spare ,but if I had to choose from what he has above id go s2000 is he based in england or irelandQuote:

He wouldnt be into Evo's/scoobys. Golf Gti perhaps but theyre fairly commonQuote:

He doesn't like the old focus:D:DQuote:

The RX8 is awful.
Not fast. No torque. Drinks oil. Terrible fuel economy.
And you'll not find a mechanic anywhere that will touch that rotary engine if something goes wrong.
What about the Gen 2 Mazda 3 MPS??? Bit iffy on the syling front but they have 280hp out of the box from the 2 litre turbo.
He has a 06 corsa with 50k km on the clock so either way it's going to be a step up for him lol.Quote:

i had one tell him to run away far away
Disappointed that they are shit always thought they looked kind of cool. Would love to see a stanced modded one! Do people mod these or are they too busy fixing/rebuilding?
They are not all bad, they drive well and can be got for nothing now, but mine was the low power model and did 16mpg combined which was aweful. At the time 230bhp in a hot hatch was massive....now ever 520d out there could beat it. The lack of torque show up my driving stills for the lazy slop they are, it just was not for me....Quote:

But for me it just wasn't a performance car, but had all the performance car headaches.

my old one couldnt give it away in 2011 with engine trouble i had spent nearly 7 grand on two engines i got 1800 in the end :@
Have to say, I always liked the look of them and still do. Neighbour of mine had one and spent as much of its life on a flatbed as it did on the road !!
I have found the only people that defend them are people who still own them, and I have rose tinted glasses about my cars but the Rex was a bad purchase.
thats to justify the amount of money thats gone into them, :)Quote:
