One of the keys that came with the MIL's 116i had a flat battery die to non use. We used @[Gar]'s trick of leaving it on an electric toothbrush stand overnight to charge it back up and now it starts the car so it's still coded properly. [emoji3]
However, the buttons won't control the central locking. I assume it just needs to be programmed to the car. Does anyone know they procedure to program a rectangular key? I've inly ever done it with an old fashioned e39 style key.

Not familiar with this car can you turn the ignition to position 1 or does the key just pop in and you press start
Check the fuse is well john
You can go to position 1 by pressing the start button without your foot on the brake pedal.Quote:

Leave the key in the ignition with a working one in the centre console then go for a 10-15 min drive. That doesn't work then leave the car with me or let me test the key firstQuote:

It might be a blown fuse or some broken wires in to the tailgate. Two items worth checking & easy to do.
