How bad are the wheels?
Metal polish and below grease is often the solution. Wet and dry paper at very fine girt may also be needed depending on the condition.
the lips are dull. not bad tho. there they wheels with the green centres in this thread http://www.bmwhaus.ie/forum/showthread.php?tid=7004&page=2
You're biggest issue is having to split them to get around the area around the bolts right!
You'd be surprised how we'll they'd react to a bit of fine grade steel wool and metal polish, and finish them with a microfiber and metal polish....Id try that out on a small section before going out and splashing cash on special polishing tools.
Meguiars metal polish , magic eraser , elbow grease and a microfiber

You can buy polishing bits for a drill. You get the polish and the cloth material wheel
Savage piece of kit.
I'll post up my work later or tomorrow.
I used autosol, no sanding the rims have gone dull over the last few months being sat gathering dust. A good scrub and some effort and this one came up alright. That pic is a little deceiving the area around the bolts isn't really that great I'd ideally like to get the correct sockets and remove them to get the lips back like they were when new

I tried Autosol....chucked it as soon as I tried the Meguirs All metal polish. Half the effort required...
Same wheels as OP, can confirm its nothing but elbow grease. Worth the effort and will force you to keep on top of them clean wise...
Yeah seriously thinking of just using them in the summer. No rush to get them ready at least
