Both Ms will be due an oil change soon and I have used up my 20L drum of Castrol. I'm half thinking about switching brands if there is better quality out there. What owners are using other brands and any feedback and best place to buy? Thinking of the following:
- Millers (expensive but prob best suited for track use)
- Liqui Molloy
- Mobil 1
- Shell
Liqui Molloy, using it in ///Ms for years, never an issue . It's expensive though, afaik around same price as the Castrol. I might be able to get a half decent price on it if a few showed interest.

Liqui Moly is much better as crapy castrol, but on my own experience Mobil 1 is best !
If you take the M to the main dealer they'll put shell in it. I've checked the specs and it seems to be on par with castrol. I know a lot of people on here don't rate castrol, but for road use I think its fine. The good thing about shell is its only €50 for 6 litres!
Its mostly matketing !
If u like to see the engine and its internals look like it has huge mileage and very dirty its ok to use castrol as it "was" approved oil

I bought liqui moly on Amazon it is expensive, I think 12 litres was close to €200

Mobil 1 , 10W60 can do 5l for about 86e ,but only in 5 l,might refill by one or 2 litres .and can get price for 10W60 liqui moly ,definitely cheaper as Dave payed
I got 20L Castrol Oil from Oil Store in Blanch. Very sound people to deal and best price around.
@Valdas Why do you think Liqui Moly is better than Castrol?
Valdas, is that Mobil1 Extended Life or is there another oil that they make?

i have said few times before but anyway , i have used to use castrol long time ago ,and once got chance to get Liqui Moly ,cos wasnt easy to get it before ,and found huge difference in few examples . with castrol vanos unit was very noisy , when engine heats up to working temeperatures ,and goes mad on track .with castrol oil temeprature gets very high . With Liqui Moly , on daily driving vanos noise nearly dissapeared and got just slight rattle when used on track . So used Liqui Moly for a while .
Got another engine in my M3 ,very low mileage , inside was clean as from factory !somehow had no chance to get Liqui moly so got Catrol , used for few K miles , maybe 2-3K . Vanos had some slight rattle .needed to do some vanos timing adjust and when opened rocker cover, found engine not clean as was before , aluminium strated to get some yellow- light brown collour so changed it to Mobil 1 10w60, Engine is still as new inside , after lot trackdays and daily driving ,all vanos noises dissapeared completely and oil temperatures keeps much lower as with Castrol , have heard lot people saying Catrol is not good for high temeperatures , even it was made to work with high teperatures . Vanos noise means oil loose its performance on higher temeperatures , parts wear much quicker and it gets to high temperatures very quick . and very lot people found that after Castrol engine gets very dirty inside , immena it leaves the dirt- carbon on engne parts and its walls ,but not collects it and get rid of them with oil change .thats my story !
if somebody found some other oil is better ,im not arguing ,but i found the difference my self on these 3 different makes of oil ,and few my friends got Mobil 1 after castrol or other oil they used before and do found much better performance on track day cars
U mean 10W60 or other grades? ill double check 10W60 tmrw , i use only Mobil 1 5W30 for custommer cars when they need that grade of oilQuote:

Even if it does, its hard to argue with what Valdelis has experienced. The only reason I'm still using castrol is lack of planning on my own part. I've never had a good experience with it in other cars.Quote:

ll is overrated imo unless you run your oil forever it benefits none of us as like myself I'm sure most here change the oil once a year or every 5-6k miles with the exception of the new cars still in the dealer network
Yea I noticed inside my S54 its stained yellow with mild residue I could scratch off with my nail. And my engine has had oil changes every 7k from new. I am very lucky to have that service history and previous owners that minded the engine. So for an engine with that level of service I am not to happy with castrol and will be changing it for something else from now on.
What is the new shell like?
You can get 10 litres of mobil1 for around €100 in euro car parts inc delivery or 116 in halfrauds

im changing from castrol as inside my engine is quite stained/yellow, will be interesting to see how the mobil1 compares.
