M54 object found jammed in intake

Hi guys
I am the proud owner of a e39 for the last 13 years I’m out of work and the car is off the road so have decided to tackle a few well overdue jobs while I have the time and don’t need the car. I had started stripping out all the parts to tackle the ccv and when I removed the air intake I seen what looked like a piece of coal jammed in the engine intake. I managed to fish most of it out but could this be the reason the car was down on power and dropping revs when driving between 40mph and 60mph. And is the engine fecked?I had a failed disa a few years ago but this is like stone not plastic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thats mental. I would try to figure out how it got there in the first place. You can do compression test? Maybe get a mechanic to use of those cameras, have a look inside to see if there are any debris and valves are ok?
