There’s a few of us still around but you’re right, not many cars below 2000

I'm doing my best to look after 3!
Bayerische has them all [emoji28]
For example a lot of Jap imports were sold to Europe after recession. Some were crashed and scraped. Made into track/ drift. The rest are tucked away and hidden around the country. The way things are at the moment it is expensive to keep performance cars on the road. Young people cant get into anything decent because they already priced out so I think in 10/20 years down the line people gonna be in awe when they ll see an 80s, 90s car being driven on a public road.
Juicebox lads have YouTube channel which is excellent, they show some excellent examples of cars in Ireland. Most are jap import.
I’m daily driving a year 2000 7er and also have a ‘98 e36.
Sadly as of late the real world is coming in on me and one of the above may have to go In favor of something modern. Despite it being the best car I’ve ever owned, the one that would go is the e36 [emoji20]
Insurance clamping down on cars over 10 years old is having an effect currently. A lot of folks in their 20's or 30's can't have something interesting for that reason and most are probably at a point in their lives where the logistics of having something tucked away that's not a daily for occasional use, e.g. space, cost, etc. is just not a runner, so there's a gap until they're a bit older and more established and might be able to swing having a toy. And there's only so many of those.
I'm not sure that it has ever been all that different though. The reason's might have changed but the effect is the same. While I would have loved to have a toy since the first time I could drive, rented accommodation, house and apartments, with no proper parking, didn't have the money, etc. all meant that it was plenty of years later before I could indulge. That's why cars that are somewhat desirable and seem to be everywhere suddenly seem to disappear off the face of the earth. There's a death zone that only a small number will get through. howmanyleft.co.uk is a great resource for seeing how quickly the numbers can decline.
On that note, I spotted a (now) rare beast on the road this morning - an '87 Ford Granada Scorpio. I can't remember the last time I saw one driving on the road rather than static at a show.
'99 E36 is going into storage for the winter
My daily is currently a '94 Pajero.
My oldest is 2001 but that really is just down to having a small fleet. If I had a storage site I would definitely have more and older cars. I would love a nice tidy E36 and to replace my E38 but I just dont have the space. Even the poor Z3 is out in the elements.
Daily driving older stuff tends to be expensive too. If I could only have one car I would probably sell off everything, get a loan and buy something like a last of the line 640i cabrio and forget what its like to worry about reliability for a few years.
Space is a big factor for me too, I have one garage and the space in front of it to park my daily. There isn’t a hope I’d park something on the street where I live so a third car is a definite no. Ideal situation for me would be If I found a rented garage unit shared with a few others to keep a car or two I’d be able to rotate what I keep in the my garage at home.

A friend of mine built a shed that’s big enough to hold 8 or 9 cars and thought that would be big enough. He managed to fill it in less than 12 months. Storage is key for these older cars.
The 74 2002 is in his shed for that reason. It was on my driveway for a few months while I was sorting out some issues with it. It was far from ideal. My M3 is in the garage and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Also have the R53 Mini Cooper S track car outside the house at the minute and the windows are all fogged up and it’s getting “green” around the edges. It needs to go into dry storage also otherwise it will just rot away.

My two are tucked away this year, haven't really been out. Between a baby in the house and buying a new house there's not really been time to pay them much attention this year.
I'd love to add one or two to the collection, but the cost of storage for a few cars is prohibitive
I still have my e36 vert and going in to my 20th year of ownership this year. Storage is a big problem alright.
e36 hiding in the corner .....
Car insurance killed it a few years ago...
Was dailying 1999 hondas and insurance became silly, moved further from work hence I bought a 535d insuring it for 400ish - 3 times less than the hondas
Still have them locked away but it’s easy to insure cars in your elder years when the car is newer
The planned replacement for the 535d is coming in les than 400€ to insure
Those old cars haven’t been forgotten just yet, 20yrs old now
The few e36s I had were covered 3rd part extension... still have the tax issue though
My E36 is in storage alongside quite a few others. I am living abroad at the moment so I have another forum member checking in on it for me which I am extremely grateful. Funnily enough where I am now, the amount of 90s BMW on the road is huge, it helps that a cold day is 25c and it rains less than 5 days a year. Weather in Ireland has an awful effect on cars condition.
Still have the E34 touring as a daily, insurance is cheap on it as a classic
