Have it towed at speed threw the window of BMW Ireland HQ.
That’s absolutely disgraceful. If it at least got near 100k miles I’d say that bill is warranted but it’s not even halfway there.

It's only ever been serviced within the BMW service network by both Colm Quinns and Morrisons. I never went outside BMW in case anything like this happened but it seems to not actually have been worth all it was cracked up to be. It got all its services in my ownership before time too.
Also I thought about yearly oil changes outside of BMW but I thought if I did that they'd have something to use against me in this kind of situation.
The 5k figure hasn't been broken down for me at all just said over the phone.
What oil do you recommend using on these engines? I have F10 with the same engine and will be doing an oil change soon, is an oil change every 10k km excessive or is an interval of 15k km more reasonable? The car has intervals for 30k km for an oil change on the onboard computer, luckily the longest its been without an oil change is 18k km since new.
We recommend 10k km intervals , or once a year . And at least every second service to include fuel filter , as N series engine fuel systems well known for HP fuel pump failures . Oil grade recommended from 5w30 to 10W60 , depends on engine condition . Some are clean and nice inside , so can take lighter oil , higher mileage and dirty ones 5w40 and so on . And not recommended at all ,dealers oil including Castrol . Mobil 1 , Liqui Moly are the ones we use .

Excellent, thanks for the advice!
Bit of an update - BMW are now covering 100% of the engine cost which brings my bill down to 3k all in. I'm quite happy with that to be honest. Jimmy the service manager in Conlans Naas is a gent.
I personally think BMW should cover 100% of costs.
They aren’t taking responsibility for the shortcomings of their service intervals being aimed at lowering the perceived cost of total ownership.
I know and I fully agree with you but I had back and forth with them for a while and I didn't want to continue it for fear of pissing off the guy I'm dealing with in Conlans.
