If I recall correctly, CO2 output for the EU4 (from late 2007 - 177bhp) manual 520d was 136g/km while the auto was 149g/km, so that would tie with the €390 figure I think.

Autos are €400 per annum and manuals are €280, only applies to 2008 on N47 cars

I have another question for those in the know (sorry for all these...):

In terms of the timing chain, I am aware of the issues they had so I won't be buying a car unless the timing chain has been replaced. However, beyond that I am not sure what exactly I should be looking for in terms of this issue. I assume the preference would be that the chain was replaced as preventative maintenance, rather than after failing? And am I simply looking to see that the chain has been replaced, or is there any other work that you'd expect to have been done at the same time to prevent future failures that I should also be looking for?

    Thanks!

I wouldn’t get too hung up on the chain to be honest. If the car is in good condition overall and is quiet on start up etc though the chain hadn’t been done I’d go for it. It’s doesn’t cost the earth to get the chain down now.

The same issues you'd get with any other diesel with a few miles under its belt - injectors, dpf filter, egr valve, glow plugs & module, turbo etc. etc.

Thanks for the help everyone, I’ve now picked something up. Not very low mileage (around 160k on a 2008 car), but clean and well enough sorted. Moving from an M car to a 4 cylinder diesel is a bit of a shock to the system in terms of the driving experience, but it’s a comfortable thing to float around in and that’s the main thing!
