    Discolouration on window frames

    Hi,

The window frames on my E60 look like this:

    816B5B4C-B7B8-4A52-B054-6A1450279FDB.jpeg

    9E26C1B6-DB93-4F24-8C4A-3E1CEC01FD66.jpeg

It seems to be more prominent after the car has been washed, but maybe I just pay attention more then.

Anyone ever come across this before or know how I might rectify it?

    Thanks!

Not sure if it can be machine polished out but it’s the same on 2 of our E46’s with the shadow line trim

The chemicals in the detergents that are being used to wash your car cause it. I don’t get it “much” anymore since I got mine polished and then I’ve only hand washed it since with decent products.

I’ve polished it out in the past using megs plastic restorer - it’s the polish they sell with the headlight cleaning kit.

Oh I have that, must try it! Did you polish by hand or a DA Polisher?

Used the porter cable - technically should be possible by hand since you’re not looking to put too much heat into it, but I wouldn’t fancy it. Can give you a hand with it if you’re around Saturday.

Was the exact same on my E60, and also on the shadowline trim. I tried everything and nothing worked, I ended up wrapping the trim and it looks class nowIMG20220421184850.jpg

I was polishing the headlights this evening and decided to try the window trim too…it came out very well, will finish that side tomorrow!
You can see on the right where it got one pass with the headlight polish and drill attachment
