E90 Maps update problem

I’ve a 10 reg 325i
It’s a jap import. Dropped into the main dealer today for its recall and I also asked them to update the maps from Japan to Europe

Problem is when they plugged the USB stick in to do the update nothing happens. Normally it should say “Start update” and you enter the FSC code. But as I said nothing happens
The USB port is in the glove box. We know the USB port works and the stick works because we can transfer music from the USB stick to the head unit

In fairness the lads in the dealership didn’t spend much time at it as they were doing it as a favour.

Any ideas why it’s happening or what needs to be done?

Check for a USB port in the glovebox - will be at the top of it and it might be the one to use for data (if it’s anything like the 6er!)

Ya that’s the one that we used Ken. Doesn’t have any other USB ports
Also forgot to mention it’sa CIC unit and we used a 32gb drive formatted to Fat32

Sorry I’m going senile. Do you have a port in the centre console?

I had a similar non response when updating the 6er and it was because there was an alternative USB port for these sort of updates.

No USB port in centre console just the glove box

You'll likely have to get the CIC unit (and possibly the car) coded for Europe, I'd say it's still coded for Japan.

If it were me I'd just do the mr12volt CIC Carplay retrofit

Echo the mr12volt as well, I'm using it (android auto) for the e92 and it really modernises the car. Is everything else working okay with the CIC unit apart from maps?

Yep all good - even have Irish radio channels

Ya dont waste any money on the cic nav. It's useless compared to google/waze etc.
