    Window tinting question

    Hello.

Not specifically a BMW question but thought I’d ask.

Does anyone know if it’s possible to get aftermarket tinting applied that doesn’t leave a gap between the black dots/frits around the edge of the window?

    Thanks..

Bump on this in case anyone’s reading…

I’m keen to get my rear windows tinted but I hate the look of that little gap around the edges that comes with aftermarket tints.

Is anyone aware of any way around this? As an alternative I was considering looking into replacing the windows with new tinted glass, but I imagine that could be quite pricey…

The short answer is no - but some window tint companies are pretty impressive & extremely good at removing all bubbles around the heater lines & border.

    Thanks very much.

Do you have any recommendations for a good company to use?

I’ve read there one possible solution is using black vinyl to cover the edges of the window or something, but no idea if that has any merit.

I saw somewhere recently advertising an external tint to avoid this problem.
It might have been Moonshine Tinting on FB

Thanks, I will take a look.

From doing a bit more research there seems to be some other potential solutions, like using sandpaper to sand down the dot matrix and stuff. Just not sure how many places in Ireland will be au fait with this stuff because most aftermarket tint jobs I've seen look terrible.

I ended up using this guy. I’m happy with the tints for now, but they’re the same as any other aftermarket tint in that the gaps around the edges appeared after about a day. In fairness he didn’t claim that he could do it without the gap on my car.

I might still explore the alternative of replacing the glass, but I have no idea how expensive that would be or if it’s even possible.
