It's a b5.5 w8, it's also a throw away engine, VW do not manufacture components for it anymore. It's something like 250kg heavier than a 540i and only 270bhp.

It is a throw away engine. Not to mention the propensity of the cam adjusters to fail which will leave you with a very big 4 litre paper weight, they were never built to last.
If you did want to repair it you would have to get the parts custom made or buy a new engine, vw were selling off the last of the engines for a little under 7k euro about 6 years ago which was half the list price of the engine.
@[Gar] we were talking about car sounds before. This is one of my favourite sounding cars of all time. Actually one of my favourite cars of all time in general. First car I'd buy in the lotto garage
