    Good stuff.

I think black kidney grilles can look good on the E60, but I'm just not a fan of the double-slat style given it only came on later generations so just looks a bit out of place (IMO). If I recall correctly there were OEM gloss black kidney grilles available from BMW for the E60 at one point, but I think they have been discontinued now.

Hope all goes well with VRT.

Dreaded VRT done and dusted so paid my pennance and for my registration number.

Ordered a set of pressed plates from Eirplates quick turnaround and delivery.

Have an upgraded CIC unit for the car that DavidK has for me down in Cork just need to arrange collection.

Next up a good service, and booking the NCT.

En route from the land of the rising sun!

Nice one! Was the VRT as expected or was there a bit of a surprise?

It's always more than you would like to pay!! Not very far off what I was expecting.

It was the lack of transparency which annoyed me most.

    I would have guessed c. €2k ?

Any scope to appeal - E60/1 (non M5) prices can vary a lot from €1,500 heaps to €15,000 true minters ?

If only the vrt was not far off double your guess. €3675…. Breakdown 3075 + 600 nox. Wouldn’t give me the omsp so its paid now and I'll just move on and enjoy it.

It looks like they hit you for max NOx levy, probably because its not recorded on the Japanese reg doc. For future reference, or for others maybe bringing something over, you probably should be able to get a copy of the Certificate of Conformance from BMW that states the NOx figure.

Not sure if there were TU updates for later, or Japan spec, N52's, but I googled a figure of 14mg/km for a pre-LCI N52 523i (haven't looked for other sources to verify that number). If that's correct then the NOx levy would be €70 (sorry Tony, not trying to rub salt in the wounds!).

For OMSP, if you have the CO2 number they used, or from the reg doc's, you should be able to reverse calculate the OMSP. The CO2 number will give you the VRT rate. Use that rate as a decimal and (€3075/VRT rate) will give you the grossed up OMSP.

Exactly this Diarmuid, because it was not showing up on the Japanese reg doc , I did bring figures for an "English version" which they would not accept unfortunately and would have reduced the nox figure considerably as you mentioned.

They are some shower to be dealing with.

So another little job ticked off the list this evening.

As mentioned previously both the headlights were oxidised with the drivers side been the worst of the two.

I picked up a holts restoration kit last week and went about having a go at the drivers side headlight this evening.

Have to say while not perfect there is a vast improvement, its a great little kit with everything you need to restore the headlight.

4 different grades of sandpaper, ranging from 800 to 3000 an abrasive polish and finally a sealer. Also two microfiber cloths and a drill attachment for the polishing.

Considering my battery died on the 3rd grade of sanding I finished the final stage and polishing paste by hand the result was better than I expected.

A nice way to spend a hour or so this evening, will tackle the passenger side tomorrow evening, should not take as long as it is in much better condition than the drivers side.
