The old man has decided to buy a classic car that is based in the north. It was bought by the current owner last year at auction in England and registered in his name in NI but he hasn’t driven it or used it.

My limited understanding of the registration system tells me that we will:

1: Have to pay vat on the agreed purchase price between the seller and my dad.

2: Arrange some form of customs clearance (no idea how this works)

3: Not pay any VRT as the car is older than 30 years.

Can anyone in the know fill me in on the customs clearance process and any other things I might need to know or be wrong about? If a deal is agreed we plan to drive up to collect it and drive it home so I assume we won’t need a ferry ticket etc right?

Thanks in advance.
