I'm going to be shuffling my cars round between selling and repairing them so it looks like I'll be better having something laying there if it's needed so I'm after opinions on what I should look into so Ignoring any tax and insurance quotes, What would you buy and why?

If it's purely for getting around and you didn't have to worry about tax given a budget of a grand and avoiding all the mondeos,vectras etc it would have to be jap for reliability and cheapness ,as I have big family I would have to stay away from small hatches etc .I would suffer with any of these

I like the look of the Lexus but the other do nothing for me. The furthest I'll be going is 2 miles away to drop me daughter at Pony club. I was eyeing up Astra Coupes, you know, something a little different.

If you dont want another bmw ,did you look at Volvo c70 streets ahead of an opel same money. After that Mitsubishi fto but it's a bit hairdresserish imho but still different none the less.

i would go with volve s60 2.5diesel. not bad on fuel to run around, all the extras u want and normal looking dayly driver, and not to expesive either

Volvo 850 T5

I'd rather an 850r estate in yellow but for 1500 euro you can't complain.

They're bullet proof and after a remap are ridiculously quick, not to mention absurdly comfortable and the straight 5 is a lovely soundtrack.

It also has a boost gauge!!!
