    Help with diagnosing E36 318is codes please?

    Hi there
    I'm looking for some help on deciphering codes from my '98 318 is coupe. It has a slight surging problem and failed the NCT for high CO at high idle recently. The surging is as described here Surging E36

    Initially I suspected the Lambda because of the frequency of the surging cycle (about 1 sec or slightly less) but I measured this with a multimeter and it seemed to be swinging between 01. V & 0.9 V so looked like it was working.
    It has a new inlet tube from MAF to throttle body, new plugs, new air filter, new oil and filter.

    As advised I went to check the codes.
    I haven't used the diagnostic software before today so am looking for some feedback on the errors I read before jumping in and throwing parts at it.

    (Car was idling dead steady before I checked codes but the surging problem was still evident when driving. After I read codes and cleared adaptions the idle is a good bit rougher - I assume the adaptions were compensating for whatever issue is present?)

    The codes I read initially were as follows ( I know the 150, 151,152 & 153 were probably because I pulled each injector connector off one by one a few nights ago when checking a misfire. I'm not sure about the lambda and phase sensor (cam position?) codes though . The lambda might be due to disconnecting although I don't think I disconnected it under power?

    I cleared all the codes. Read them again and the 112 phase position code came back.
    I did this a few times and 112 came back each time.

    Is this definitely pointing to my cam position sensor or is this one of those errors that comes up depending on how you connect everything up. (I read codes both with the engine running and with the engine static.)

    All help would be much appreciated.

    I've also attached screen shots of the live data. The Lambda I'm still not sure about - sometimes its voltage was swinging, sometimes it remained low.

    No experience in code reading but I'd gather that either the camshaft or crankshaft sensor has received a value outside its operating range?

    Since your engine is running, its probably the camshaft sensor?

    Had a quick google there if its the camshaft sensor it could mean the following things:

    a wire or connector in the circuit could be grounded/shorted/broken
    the camshaft position sensor may have failed
    the PCM may have failed

    Answering my own thread here but I changed the cam sensor for a 2nd hand one - managed to do it without having to take off throttle body or manifold top.. It sorted the problem - no more codes so far. Car driving much better too. I presume the surging I had was the Lambda swinging trying to adjust for the mode the car went into when the cam sensor was not working.
