Anyway ISTA/D came out in 2009 to replace DIS and was totally revamped about 2 years ago. Exactly same interface, menus etc, but the whole product was redeveloped from the inside as it was bloated from the beginning. The development code of the BETA program for the new version was called RHEINGOLD. Rheingold is a Beta and cracked version of then about to release ISTA/D 2 years ago.

RHEINGOLD is regularly maintained by some guys on the internet and many download it and use it to run diagnostics. The product does not code or flash anything. But yeah as Mark said this is basically the latest and the greatest.

Many Irish garages use the official online version from BMW by paying a subscription.

BMW like any other car manufacturers for years, been required by law to make their diagnostic tool available to professionals outside the official dealerships. So BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc, all have online versions available to independent garages. Costs a few thousands, but it is here and does the job.
I know that, I use it everyday but I'm wondering is there someone who has made a "copied" version of it like Bmtechnics did for the GT1. I don't want computer jargon, I just want a simple plug and play solution

What are you downloading? Just curious.

Also if anyone is looking for an INPA to download just google "INPA 502 updated .rar" and you'll come across something. It is a 3 step installation process. Not the latest and greatest but fine for e46, e39 and earlier e60 & e90, etc.

Downloading rheingold ISTA/D, just got it off TPB. Haven't got a chance to install it yet, but I'll give it a go. Have inpa and dis on the laptop as it stands, but if it's newer (and free) no harm giving it a shot

Guys, what will INPA do that a good generic Diagnostics like my Launch won't do?

Nothing tbh, INPA is no better than a newer generation Launch diagnostics. You want to get ICOM Rheingold set up if you really wanna do stuff.

You have the programming/coding function which is handy but the coding is sometimes painfully slow and on older stuff like an E39 something like a Carly would do the same job.

Regarding diagnostics you have test plans attached to each fault which would give a good description and step by step plan of how to fix the faults. Then you've the likes of adaptions and test functions for the likes of vanos units etc......
