Phone scam/spam/phishing

Looks like those nigerian, egyptian, indinan and pakistani phone scammers all got my landline number today. Phone rings in every 15 minutes.
Numbers where calls are coming from so far are as follows:

ya same problem,only started after I was online getting insurance quote putting in my details,even getting call me from strange numbrs on the mobile,bastards

You may be on to something here, i have done some insurance quotes not so long ago myself.
Could it be, that some insurance companys database has been compromised by scammers?

Anyway, i did answer couple of the calls now, but nobody is speaking to me. I tried the usual phone scam answer lines of course, like "Hello. Thanks for calling microsoft windows helpline. How can i help you today?" and "Hello. Police cyber crime division. Who is this?". But it has been silence in the other end.

I wouldn't answer, they may be calling from a collect premium number you might be getting charged to answer .

I don't think it is possible. You would get charged premium rate when you call back to them, but not when they call you.

All i have heard is, that people call them back and get charged like 1000€ a minute.
But i will see for sure when next bill arrives. I hope it is not 10000000€

I talk to them sometimes and pretend to be doing all the bits they tell me to do on laptop.then pretend it didn't work and have to do it again.spent half hour on the phone with them one day.they don't like that messing.never got charged for it as I've checked the bills several times

I was on line getting quotes a while back soon.after started getting a lot of strange numbers herself didn't want to answer but I happened to finish work early one day phone rang and I had great crack for 15 20 mins being the most incompetent polite worried concerned computer user ever .needless to say his patience got the better Of him. No calls since .:happy:

Just got a phone call from "Microsoft Tech Support." I asked how they had gotten my landline (in Galway), and I was informed that they can trace it through my IP address. Apparently, my computer has been hacked, and the computer needs to be turned on, and he will talk me through what to do to fix it. I asked for their email (they provided windowscustomer@tech.com), and a phone number (this is an irish number, which I called back, and they guy at the end of the line indicated that it was windows tech support, and also indicated that their location is in Sandyford - which is where Microsoft is located). The phone number was (01) 4429367. He informed me that his name was David Philips, but when I asked him how to spell his surname he initially spelled it PHILEP, and then when I asked him to repeat it, he said PHIPEL. Also, the number they called off of was 00212340181.

All in all, he had a bad attitude, and if he was genuinely from Microsoft, then I would be requesting to speak to his supervisor!
