    e36 318IS m42 and m44 manifolds ANSWERED

Lads just so ye know as many state they won't work swapped over as in the down pipes are different and that you'll need to transplant a full m44 exhaust. This turned out to be horseshit and am now driving an M42 with an M44 mani connected to the m42 exhaust.

Not had a really good spin as of yet to tell. Will know more by tomorrow eve. Is the M44 more free flowing for the 1.9 engine? Not sure if it will make a noticeable difference but we shall see.

All seems good so far and obviously a lot quieter. The original was in bad shape. Do they all go on the pipe closest to the firewall? The only difference so far seems to be the way the downpipes are formed ie the m42 can be removed easily while adding the m44 version to the block requires movement of the steering rack forward and removal of the steering knuckle. This then gives about an inch clearance when all back together. I'm assuming the origins that they were not interchangeable came about from the fact it requires a lot more effort to fit the m44 than the m42.
