    Peanut allergy

Anybody on here have to carry these Epipens?
Just wondering where you buy, best value etc?

The little fella took a mad reaction to peanut (we think) and after a night in temple street (thank fcuk he didn't eat one) we need to get them while we get a date for specialist allergy testing to confirm if it was the nuts etc

Can't seem to get any info online except for up North, where they tell you the price of prescriptions up front! Can I bring an Irish prescrtion to newry and buy there as they are £35 approx each.

No idea of Irish price, but have heard €75 each mentioned before. We need to buy 4 minimum so newry would be financially worth it if required.

MrsH carries one and changes it every year. She got her last one in Boots I don't think they're that expensive but sure they'd be covered under your DPS card anyway if the prescription was for 4.

    What's the DPS card John?

Is it medical card or similar?

Edit - just seen it's the national drug scheme. Max of €144 per month. Thanks. Forgot about that. Do you have to apply for it or will the chemist automatically cap the purchase at €144?

Drug Payment Scheme. The max you pay for prescriptions in any month is €150 or so. It's open to all iirc

    RE: Peanut allergy

ive a nut allergy too, throat closes up and tongue swells, came out of the blue about 10 years ago.I discovered mine when I had a few salted nuts from aldi, very frightening stuff, thought I was going to die.
be careful as so much stuff has had contact with nuts, certain drink does me as well, eyes swell and throat swells so cant see or breathe.
2 xmas ago I got a few cans one night and after half can my throat started getting funny and eyes went itchy, within 5 mins I could barely see or breathe, had to force milk and anti hystomine tabs into me..must be frightening with a young child,i went to the doc a few times but never got the pen, just have to keep tabs with me in case...its weird how much stuff has nuts in it or has contact with nut oil,not always on the labels
the eppie pens are severe for kids..anti histamine syrup is great on kids but has to be prescribed by doctor as do the pens

Yeah I have anti histamine as he can suffer with itchy skin ehceima type and fed up going docs so we got a good supply in Turkey. Also give him portion, doctors visit and €19.50 a bottle on prescription! The thing is £3.59 up north so we also have a supply of that.

If it is a nut allergy, then it may explain his skin condition as it comes and goes. Maybe we can narrow it down now for him. Thanks.

If you have a prescription you can get if filled in the north. My prescription used to be €55 a month in a chemist down here. Same thing was £12 in the north! I think the DPS is €144 per month per family/household, so you can get the card in your name and use it for the little fella. When I got mine I filled in the form in the chemist. Just need your PPS number from what I remember.
