    Note also that the cam chain was replaced at 90,000 miles on the E30 M3. That was in the days when the old Munich Legends were spreading false rumours that cam chains needed to be replaced at 100,000 miles. This was true for the M88 engine in the E28 M5 and M635Csi but not the S14 engine in the E30 M3 as it has a dual row timing chain. I think ML made quite a bit of money replacing chains on E30 M3's unnecessarily. When internet forums started to gather momentum they were slated for this practice and lost a lot of credibility as a result.
