iPhone 5, but would need to unlock it, get a US sim, get some internet package, a car holder, a car charger etc.

The sim is dead easy. Call into AT&T and get a pay and go sim. $60 2Gb data that lasts 30 days (there are cheaper options too).

Alternatively call into t mobile and get a wifi hotspot. They sometimes have refurbished ones for cheaper, no phone unlocking required.

Or if you're with emobile or meteor you can get a 200meg US data roaming plan for 20 quid. Turn on data roaming, get directions and then turn off data. You won't get live traffic etc but it's doable.

yea was just going to say new sim google maps as above
or buy a second hand satnav off ebay
you'll struggle to find semeone here with usa maps as at a stretch most of would just have europe

Ah if you had android (with GPS chip, not A-GPS) I'd be able to sort you out No need for US sim, internet etc...you would need a charger of course

you can get usa maps for satnav if you go down the not so legal route of downloading torrents etc. YMMV
