E60 Sat Nav DVD question

Hi Guys

a guy in work as a 2008 520D i think its post LCI. He has a CD bank in the glovebox and the DVD Nav.

I know feck all about them, He was asking me is the DVD Nav disk always required in the drive to run Nav or is there any other way to run the nav without requiring the disk permanently in the drive?

You definitely need the SAT Nav Disc in the CCC unit in order for the maps to continue functioning. On the later CIC with the hard drive then the maps are stored on the hard drive, I believe they are loaded via USB.
