Yes it does. I have done this very job in an e92. In fact depending on the head unit you might have to edit the VO of the car to pretend that it is newer than it is.

Yes coding required. Also with this newer HU I think you can code in the USB interface.
Yep, that was one of the main reasons that I did it for user FrankieFlow over on driver. It was last year sometime.
