e36 ews?

so i bought a 1994 e36 316i a friend of mine has a 1997 318is that he is selling it has been crashed so i want to buy if for the running gear but my car does not have an ews system is there anyway of installing the 1997 engine by using a different ecu etc? any help really apreciated
